Jews for Jesus Blues Lyrics
I was searching for something I could not describe
So I stared at the sun till the tears filled my eyes
Well I thought I was empty so I paid the cost
But now that I’m found I miss being lost
I opened my heart and I let Jesus in
With the promise that I would be free of my sins
But I only felt guilty that he died on the cross
Now that I’m found I miss being lost
I don’t wanna suffer and I don’t wanna die
I want the clouds parted in an endless, blue sky
But someone up there has a different plan
Now that I’m saved I wish I was damned
So I stared at the sun till the tears filled my eyes
Well I thought I was empty so I paid the cost
But now that I’m found I miss being lost
With the promise that I would be free of my sins
But I only felt guilty that he died on the cross
Now that I’m found I miss being lost
I want the clouds parted in an endless, blue sky
But someone up there has a different plan
Now that I’m saved I wish I was damned

I saw Eef of Clem Snide play at the apollo the other night, anyway he described the inspiration for this song was when he moved to tennesse. They all really like jesus there, so he was at this market/show, and there was a stall selling this t-shirt. It had a picture of a buffed up Jesus looking kind of angry, kind of a claud van dam jesus. Anyway above him it said "What don't you understand about love?"
i love this song; it's so winningly tongue in cheek. being from the virginia/tennessee border myself, i can appreciate his inspiration for it, too--there are a lot of people who seem to feel bullied into believing in jesus, like if they doubted for even a second, he'd show up at their door and kick their asses. i recently made a mix cd of religiously-themed songs by secular artists, and this was the first track.
