International Dateline Lyrics
Woke up in the evening
To the sound of screaming
Through the walls it was bleeding
All over me
Untied and weightless
Unconscious as we cross
The international dateline
Let’s end it here
Grown tired of the show-coast
And then as we toast
There are all zeros
Around here
Untied and weightless
Unconscious as we cross
The international dateline
Let’s end it here
Let’s end it here
Let’s end it here
Let’s leave it here
Let’s leave it here
Woke up in the evening
To the sound of screaming
Through the walls it was bleeding
All over me
Untied and weightless
Unconscious as we cross
The international dateline
Let’s end it here
Let’s end it here
Let’s end it here
Let’s leave it here
Let’s leave it here
To the sound of screaming
Through the walls it was bleeding
All over me
Unconscious as we cross
The international dateline
Let’s end it here
And then as we toast
There are all zeros
Around here
Unconscious as we cross
The international dateline
Let’s end it here
Let’s end it here
Let’s leave it here
Let’s leave it here
To the sound of screaming
Through the walls it was bleeding
All over me
Unconscious as we cross
The international dateline
Let’s end it here
Let’s end it here
Let’s leave it here
Let’s leave it here

The International Date Line is the imaginary line on the Earth that separates two consecutive calendar days. So in a way, it is what seperates time in a certain place...even though the idea of time can be very subjective.
In this song, which is freakin awesome, I believe that the narrator is in a place she/he doesn't want to be, and she is trying to cross over to another time, or international dateline. If you might want to look at in a deeper sense, the international dateline could maybe be crossing over into your dreams or possibly death, because whenever or whoever crosses that line, time is indifferent.
Absolutely sublime! Reminds me of Nena's irgendwie/wo/wann somehow, the happy beats but sombre haunting melody
Anyway, I cant seem to find a meaning for this song that fits exactly the way I would feel 'that's right'.
the other explanations are pretty cool but something's missing for me. the song just evokes indescribable emotions
I can't believe no one has this interpretation but I think the song is very autobiographical, mostly from Daniel Hunt's POV, who writes most of the music/lyrics and who you can hear singing in the background on this track. The song is about becoming a successful band, touring the world and traveling across the international dateline and considering going out on top.
It is about war.\n\nIt is as simple as that.\n\nWoke up to the sound of the screaming? Walls bleeding?\n\nThe author is telling us they just exploded a bomb in the middle of the night.\n\nWeightless, unconscious crossing.\nThey’re running away, escaping war, without their belongings (weightless).\n\nThe international dateline, is the date and place where the war started and it’s International because is all over the news around the world.\n\nI think the next piece actually says\n“Grown tired of the show coast\nAnd the ones that we toast\nThere are already zeroes\nAround here”\n\nReferring to the leaders around the world\nPretending to be doing something for the war\nWhen they in fact are just making a show\nAnd the people experiencing the war can see they in fact are doing so little so they’re like zeroes to them\n\nI think this song can very much be applied to any war, for example to the Russian invasion in Ukraine and the lyrics come to life.
makes me think of the moment when chronology becomes oblique; the moment that bridges quantum mechanics and relativity
I also think the song refers to the brink of something that happened with a defined point. Specifically, a relationship ended, and now they are free.
a think playgroundlove made a nice review of the lyric, and i agree that they shouldnt stop playing that way!
I would almost say it's a combination of what jamesdean said. It's about crossing into your dreams, and truly embracing them. But those dreams are something like death. Almost like they are becoming comfortable with the fact that they will eventually die, and it's allowed them to move forward into a new day.
Dateline is where one day ends and other begins. Song is about trying to turn the page or make the next step together with someone.
I agree with th1rte3n, while the meanings written fit, I can't help but feel as if there's a another level or something somewhere, since it's such a beautiful song.
Has anyone heard the harmonium version? I love that so much.
