Sing Me Spanish Techno Lyrics
Go to now, after picking the glass off the ground
Go to now, after shaking the thing for a sound
Do we see what the clock makes you do?
But I won't let this happen to you
In a town, where I lost every shirt on the fence
Go to now, I am bleeding a trail through the lens
When I'll see what the now know it's you
I was caught in the eye as you came, pulled by my name up on and through
Traveling at godspeed
Over the hills and trails
I have refused my call
Pushing my lazy sails
Into the blue flame
I want to crash here right now
The hourglass spilt its sand
If only to punish you
For listening too long to one song
Sing me Spanish techno
Go to now, after wiring the thing to explode
Wired for sound, wide awake here for days in a row
Now we see what the engine can do
And I won't let this happen to you
Traveling at godspeed
Over the hills and trails
I have refused my call
Pushing my lazy sails
Into the blue flame
I want to crash here right now
The hourglass spills its sand
If only to punish you
For listening too long to one song
Sing me Spanish techno
Go to now, after shaking the thing for a sound
Do we see what the clock makes you do?
But I won't let this happen to you
Go to now, I am bleeding a trail through the lens
When I'll see what the now know it's you

These lyrics look correct to me, except "For listening to the, to one sound" should be "For listening too long, to one song". From what I gather, this song is about needing a radical change in lifestyle. How many times have you thought you needed a change in your life because you're stuck in a rut and the scenery has become redundant? When he asks "Sing Me Spanish Techno", that's exactly what he wants to hear. Something completely new and foreign even, because he's been listening to one song for too long, or lived in the same place for too long, or been in an unrewarding relationship for too long ("The hourglass spills its sand If only to punish you" and "Do we see what the clock makes you do"). "Sing Me Spanish Techno" could be titled "Fly Me To The Moon" or "Throw Me Off The Golden Gate Bridge", something crazy and new to help one escape the day-to-day routines and incessant familiarity. And it makes me jump up, flail my arms, and dance around the living room. I definitely can't help listening to this song for too long.

Yeah, definitely agree with you. This song is about becoming fed up with living the easy life for so long. This person was refusing their calling in life and just going wherever the wind took them. Years have passed, and there is now remorse due to having the sense that their life was wasted. "Listening too long to one song" is living too long without real change or growth. song, will you marry me?
they've interviewed a.c. about these lyrics. he said something about 'spanish techno' in conversation with a friend and she said "sing me spanish techno!" he then proceeded to say the rest of the lyrics are pretty much meaningless. gotta love that.
ac and his girlfriend were talking about living in Spain and he asked her to speak spanish and she could only recall the spanish from the techno songs, and thus the only spanish she could repeat was by singing a spanish techno song.
Ahh, my first New Pornographers song. I fell in love. :D Amazing...
Second song of the New Pornographers I've heard, and it's my favourite!!! (Well, I really like The Bleeding Heart Show too....)
I agree that this song is basically saying 'change is good.' And is it just me or should the New Pornographers be named The Mixed Metaphors. I love the way 'lost every shirt on the fence' sounds.
Anyone seen the video? Hella funny, plus the guy does make a convincing drag queen.
Yes! I've seen the video! I loved it. I loved that it was unpredictable and light-hearted. And I love drag queens.
And to the newer NP fans: This song is good, but there are some songs that are way better. If you haven't yet, listen to Chump Change, July Jones, and Letter From an Occupant. Actually, listen to it all. Pretty much all NP is good.
'travelling at God speed' what a great line
