Jackie, Dressed in Cobras Lyrics
Look, we've seen this kind of thing before:
Jackie threats with cobras at the door
Don't live your life inside an arrow
Filled with glances
You look sick, you've had your chances
Yes, you've had 'em
Yes, you've had 'em
Yes, you've had 'em
On a train devouring the land
There's a kid going insane over her man
Insane over her man
Insane over her
Look, we've seen this kind of thing before
Orchids hanging from the reverend's door
And if he hollers, let him out
'cuz he's going to shout
She's something and the way she moves
Just shouldn't be allowed, oh
Wrecked on the jungle floor
Jackie's dressed in cobras
Giving me ideas
What I really need now is ideas
Look, we've seen this kind of thing before:
Vampires float across the ballroom floor
The snake has blood that's squeezed for dancing
You look sick, you've had your chances
Yes, you've had them
Yes, you've had them
Yes, you've had them
On a train devouring the land
There's a kid going insane over her man
Insane over her man
Insane over her

judging from the first verse, the line (Jackie flirts with cobras at the door) may refer to the girl that you think is unapproachable but really is approachable if you truly desire her. The line (Don't leave your life inside a mirror) probably means you should stop observing life and start living it. The chorus means if you wont approach that girl, someone who is insane over her will.
my friend and i have a little debate over this song. is it.. there's a kid going insane over her, man. or theres a kid going insane over her man.
This song is about a girl. But when i heard the the song i didn't hear "Bogarts hanging from the reference door" I heard "Orchids hangin; from the reverends door", I like the version better by destroyer on the Quiet weather single series 7 inch
What does that line mean anyways?
Jackie is someone that wants attention, gets it from the wrong person and has the worst things about her taken advantage of? Maybe it's just telling you to take the upper hand in a situation like that and get Jackie to like you instead.
I don't think this has anything to do with "Jackie" from Mass Romantic... but I could be wrong.
or maybe it's all gibberish and it dosn't mean anything.
This is the first song by The New Pornographers I heard and it may well be my favourite!
Not a fucking clue what it's about though.
i never know what the new pornographer's songs are about, but what qish was talking about is kind of what i got from it.
i think thats the great part about the new pornographers...the way they phrase everything.
it is a sequel to jackie... i think their website says that someplace
this song to me always reminds me of the girl in the club that lets the guys get all over her. shes so deprived for attention she has know idea what some of the men could be capable of.
"Mistake this bloodlust feast for dancing"
to the point that the singer observes that its like prey on the jungle floor surrounded by cobras. basically she seems so easy to take advantage of that even the singer considers for a second the things she could do
