Leaders Of The Free World Lyrics

I’m sick of working for a living
I’m just ticking off the days till I die
I miss you Louise
And the sickest little pleasures keep me going in between pulling teeth

Periscope up
I’ve been looking for a ladder
I need to see THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF
And remind him what was passed onto me

Your mum don’t sleep!
The friends you keep!
I didn’t raise a thief!

But the LEADERS OF THE FREE WORLD
Are just little boys throwing stones
And its easy to ignore ‘til they’re knocking on the door of your homes

My thinking isn’t driven
But the music always gives me a lift
I’m so easy to please
But I think we dropped the baton like the 60’s didn’t happen. Oh no.

Periscope up
Should be looking for a ladder
I need to se THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF
And remind him what was passed onto me

Your mum don’t sleep!
The friends you keep!
I didn’t raise a thief!

Passing the gun from Father to FECKLESS son
We’re climbing a landslide where only the good die young

incredible song. yeah about bush etc, obviously. like the 60s didnt happen, the business driven world we now inhabit were socialism or left wing politics don't exist anymore.

I think the "Passing the gun from Father to Feckless son" is in reference to Bush Sr and Bush Jr.... terrorists in their own rights.

louise is my sister. she was having a bad day when i penned it. its a totally selfish red herring with nothing to do with the rest of the song. x

dur, clearly another song against Bush. Though I think this time, Guy wants to directly tell him what he's doing wrong

Oh and the first of the last two lines "Passing the gun from father to feckless son" was probably taken from the little postlude of "Fugitive Hotel"

Yeah... I'm not against Bush but I love this song even though I don't agree with the main gist of it... but the music, everything is genius. When I heard 'snowball' on Help! A Day in the Life charity CD, I had to listen to more of Elbow and heard this song, and now I'm hooked.

Any idea what the line "I miss you Louise" is in reference to? Possibly one of the greatest songs ever written.
