Silent Life Lyrics

There's a light beyond the sticks and stones
Past the piles of broken bones
It could melt a frozen heart if it needs to be so

It's the place to cut the weeds and wires
And dodge the thorns and quills
It's the place divides divide
Where the river stands still

It is time to weather stormy seas
And suck the venom clear
We could clean the poison pains
And while we are here

We could shake the buzzards off our tails
And keep the snakes at bay
Hear the sirens fade and the thunder rumble away

Its the place tectonic plates will pass each other not to touch
That’s the sound of the new silent life

It’s the place where all divides divide and the rivers all stand still
That’s the sound of the new silent life
That’s the sound of the new silent life

i wish i was smart enough to know what this meant, because then i could actually like the song for what he's saying, not just because of the good harmonies and melodies.

Last spring I would listen to this song while I was working as a courier in London, looking forward to visiting California in the Summer. I didn't like my job very much but the imagery this song conjured up got me excited about going away. To me it meant leaving the city ("hear the sirens fade") and going to the countryside where I could relax and recharge, clean my "poison pains" and melt my "frozen heart".
