The Ides of March Lyrics
Tie me up with sheets, and hang me from your tree
I'll stay out here all night, it doesn't even matter
As long as I can see, into your room and feel
Like I'm inside your life, I'll follow you forever
Don't cut me down just yet, I'll make things right again
Don't close your blinds on me, on me...
I will never recover from this
I will never believe in this again
I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started
The snow won't go away, My nose runs down my face
No one sees me here, It doesn't even matter
And every step I take, I stay in the same place
I can't begin to start again why can't I just be perfect?
I will never recover from this
I will never believe in this again
I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started
I will never recover from this
I will never believe in this again
I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started
You see my ghost and you'll never forget it
My face is as white as the snow that haunts me
Your windows my door and nothing can stop me
Sometimes betrayal can make you happy
Don't cut me down just yet, I'll make things right again
Don't close your blinds on me, on me...
I will never recover from this
I will never believe in this again
I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started
I will never recover from this
I will never believe in this again
I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started
I'll stay out here all night, it doesn't even matter
As long as I can see, into your room and feel
Like I'm inside your life, I'll follow you forever
Don't close your blinds on me, on me...
I will never believe in this again
I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started
No one sees me here, It doesn't even matter
And every step I take, I stay in the same place
I can't begin to start again why can't I just be perfect?
I will never believe in this again
I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started
I will never believe in this again
I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started

To me, this song is a metaphor for being left behind by someone else in a relationship.
"Tie me up with sheets, and hang me from your tree"T
he imagery I get when I listen to this song is a girl having an old piece of clothing she's used and now she's forgotten outside once she's hung it to dry. This is written from his perspective; he's the piece of clothing that she's forgotten, he feels like he belongs to her and he just wants to go back into her life to be with her again, even though she left him out to dry and wither by himself.
"I'll stay out here all night, it doesn't even matter As long as I can see, into your room and feel Like I'm inside your life, I'll follow you forever"
Throughout the song he constantly says he just wants her to take him back, he just wants to somehow, in any way shape or form, be a part of her life. He just stays outside waiting for her to come out and bring him back in to her life. But she constantly doesn't, she just leaves him outside.
"I will never recover from this I will never believe in this again I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started"
While he's outside waiting, his feelings start to change. He's getting tired of being left vulnerable ( "The snow won't go away" he's outside just being exposed to everything without her protection), he realized that he's been torn and hurt and he couldn't be the same even if she finally did come out and take him in. So he feels like he's damaged and couldn't be the same way he was before she set him out to dry and wither (or, according to the metaphor, she broke up with him and moved on to other things)
.........Julius Ceasar
Alright there's a couple of reference's to Julius Caesar in this song.(I think.lol.)
"You see my ghost and you'll never forget it"
To me this refers to Caesar's ghost appearing to brutus the night before he goes to battle. And brutus asks why the ghost has come and the ghost tells him that he will see him at Philippi(the battle grounds.) And later during the battle after some men have commited suicide, Brutus says he can feel caesar's spirt avenging his own death and the spirt of rome. Another one I found was..
"Sometimes betrayal can make you happy"
I think is about Brutus killing caesar. Plain and simple.
The last one that I found, which i just found while going over the lyrics again was..
"I will never recover from this I will never believe in this again I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started "
I think this is about Rome itself. It will never be what it was before caesar died. And it can't ever go back to the way it was.
Silverstein is awesome!
As long as I can see, into your room and feel Like I'm inside your life, I'll follow you forever
In literal terms, this song to me means that this boy cannot get over a relationship he had with this girl and now he is stalking her outside her bedroom just so he can feel like he's a part of her life again.
Don't cut me down just yet, I'll make things right again Don't close your blinds on me, on me...
But in metaphoric terms he doesnt want her to cut him out of her life and look the other way in hopes he can make things right again.
I will never recover from this I will never believe in this again
It sounds like he was in love and now heartbroken, he won't believe in love again and will never feel the same.
these lyrics are so incomplete...

thats the way the lyrics appear in the book
best lyrics of all time:
"I will never recover from this, I will believe in this again I can never go back to the way I used to be before this started"
cause & effect. every situation effects us. relationships effect us to an extent where we are forever changed. some for the good. most for the bad. the sad truth.
silverstein puts it in such a great way. the melodic screams, the vocals... just capture the feeling of the song.
wonderful boys.
This song makes a handful of references to the play Julius Caeser so i would say this song is mostly about revenge and guilt.
He regrets what he did and for that he will never see things the same again and he is everyday haunted by the soul that he betrayed.
I actually think this is about drug addiction, cocaine to be specific, thats the only thing I can make from the snow references
The snow that haunts him, his nose running down his face (the drips), references to break and enter, letting someone he loves down
Could just be me.
It could possibly be able a cocaine addiction. like you said. "letting someone he loves down". betrayal.
