Hiway Nights Lyrics
I know the spell you're under
I know it so well
How far? Well you may wonder
No way to tell
I've travelled miles from nowhere
Where sons never rise
Lookin' to find a meaning
Now open your eyes
Yeah
Been this way so long
Tomorrow's gone
See if the rhyme has reason
Chasing the wind
Look for a change of season
Somewhere to begin
Yeah
The freeway is my song
Now hiway nights
Red tail lights
Lead my love light love
Hiway nights
Freeway sights
To this eagle I belong
It rolls me on
How can I bring you lovin'
Out of the night
Is it a dream
To fade in the light
Yeah
The freeway is my song
Hiway nights
Red tail light
Lead my love light on
Hiway lights
Freeway sights
To this eagle I belong
Baby won't you start your motor
Baby won't you turn it over
Baby won't you drive me
Drive me through the night
I know it so well
How far? Well you may wonder
No way to tell
Where sons never rise
Lookin' to find a meaning
Now open your eyes
Been this way so long
Tomorrow's gone
Chasing the wind
Look for a change of season
Somewhere to begin
The freeway is my song
Red tail lights
Lead my love light love
Hiway nights
Freeway sights
To this eagle I belong
It rolls me on
Out of the night
Is it a dream
To fade in the light
The freeway is my song
Red tail light
Lead my love light on
Hiway lights
Freeway sights
To this eagle I belong
Baby won't you turn it over
Baby won't you drive me
Drive me through the night

It's simple really It is a song written from Jack Russell’s perspective of life on the road playing music night after night “to this eagle I belong” the eagle he speaks of is a brand of tour bus him saying he belongs to it is stating that life on the road is his life. He is on a fast road to nowhere and all of the trappings are simply fantasy and illusion that he bought into a long time ago. “Is it a dream to fade in the light” speaks of his dream of life on stage spending up his years in that moment night after night. His only real passion except for one other and that is female companionship for the night. It also speaks of desperation seeking and chasing the wind looking to find a meaning
I Love this song! It has an urgent tempo as if one is in a hurry. Not sure here, but I think it's about the lonely life of being a truck driver. More than anything he just wants to get home to his Love. He seems to be tortured on the road by the lights and the sights that confine him to the eagle he belongs (his truck) which rolls him on his way.. but he is stuck in the 'time away' instead of where his heart is. I sense he has a fear that he is losing precious time because she longs to be with him too, but psychological time is a slow death on the road. Until reunion, the Freeway is my song and it leads my love light on!
