Your Sword vs. My Dagger Lyrics
I'm cutting through, your bleeding heart,
and i would tell the truth, but i can't help myself.
Red rushes out, dissect the nerve,
and i'll stop myself before i reach my cell.
I wasn't asking for the world,
and you know that i'm not one to follow through.
All these city streets the people look the same,
and i can see your face, and i can hear your name.
I wasn't asking for the world.
Your stabbing in permanent scars,
and you'll justify, it all inside yourself.
You finish me, my pulse is gone,
and you're satisfied to put this all to hell.
I wasn't asking for the world,
and you know that i'm not one to follow through.
All these city streets the people look the same,
and i can see your face, and i can hear your name.
I wasn't asking for the world.
Drink the poison, when you think it's over,
(drink the poison)
stabbing yourself, when you think it's too late.
Tragic endings are your thing, you love them,
(tragic endings)
you love letting go, the endings the same.
Drink the poison, when you think it's over,
(drink the poison)
inevitable, Verona lives inside of you.
I wasn't asking for the world,
and you know that i'm not one to follow through.
All these city streets the people look the same,

I think the song is about giving up, or being so dramatic over something, that you make it worse than it is. When he says, "Drink the poison when you think it's over. Stabbing yourself, when you think it's too late," he means that this person isn't thinking things over clearly, and is jumping to conclusions before the verdict is presented. The rest of the song sounds like living in regret from someone elses mistake. And because of that mistake, he is taking it upon him or herself. Either by falling into depression, or commiting suicide. And all this person ever wanted was for things to be normal, or for things to go his way, and since they didn't, he's not going to follow through, he's going to give up. Hints the words, "I wasn't asking for the world. And you know that I'm not one to follow through."
its referring to Romeo and Juliet, which took place in verona. it also goes along with the poison and the actual title of the song. the song pretty much means (from what ive gathered) giving up before its over.
Oh my god why has nobody commented on this fantastic opening song of the album.
such a solid tune.
silverstein keeps putting out great albums.
whats the verona reference?
tragic endings are your thing, you love them. you love letting go. i definitely can say that to someone. thats my favorite part of the song. i understand the bridge but the rest of the song i'm not really sure what it's about
I thought it ment that he was in love with a girl and all he asked for was her love back and she was just a b*tch to him and stuff and thats why he didnt ask for the world but :D w/e lol
I like to consider this song my life's theme song. It's just so peppy of a song. Makes me want to get up and dance even though it's not exactly a happy song.
Your stabbing in permanent scars, and you'll justify, it all inside yourself. You finish me, my pulse is gone, and you're satisfied to put this all to hell.
