Drilling Lyrics
This is us on a Western Atlantic Coast
With no place to be, just takin in the sea
Tonight with a constant buzz, staring at the ocean crashing on
All the rocks below in this foreign home
This old story,
When we're gone I feel I'll never miss anyone
And you lay in the grass along the edge
Is this a dream,
You ask and I don't say anything
'Cuz this may be a dream
And we come to this place,
Like two convicts that have escaped
From the prison of everyday
And for the moment we'll have our stay
This old story,
When we're gone I feel I'll never miss anyone
And you lay in the grass along the edge
You know that tomorrow comes like disease to us
You know that tomorrow comes
From this cliff's edge,
The gulls fly below us
Diving into the sea below us
And I'm not cold tonight,
Beside you, beside you
And we're not cold tonight
This old story,
When we're gone I feel I'll never miss anyone
This old story
Expatriate, you're comin' home
With no place to be, just takin in the sea
Tonight with a constant buzz, staring at the ocean crashing on
All the rocks below in this foreign home
When we're gone I feel I'll never miss anyone
And you lay in the grass along the edge
You ask and I don't say anything
'Cuz this may be a dream
And we come to this place,
Like two convicts that have escaped
From the prison of everyday
And for the moment we'll have our stay

lol I thought he said Sauna at first too... Such a good song, sounds like he's on Vacation from his everyday life and doesn't want it to end. Like it feels like a dream.
this song was me last night!
It seems almost all songs by MTB are written about vacations, or written on them. They have such fantastic imagery in their lyrics
is it just me, but it looks like a story line in their songs. i may have the songs in the wrong order, but it seems to me that MTB creates a character (alter ego) guy that starts out hating "office life" then switches to a Bonny and Clyde with some chick he picked up, escapes west through the desert to the west coast with the girl, but it wasn't enough, so he killed her and then a detective sees the crime scene and thinks of his kids and family..... or i could be really stoned.....btw, the following is the tracts in order: The Game Needed Me, Memphis and 53rd, Drilling, The Fix, ?...
this song seems to coincide with my life right now, in a few ways. i can't really say much for the parts where he talks on being on a vacation, about the ocean and all that.. but here's how it affects me personally.... right now i'm completely in love with this girl, and i'm about to move from the town i've lived in for the past 10 years to be with her somewhere else. there's alot of things going on between me and my friends i don't feel like explaining in detail, but anyway, the "This old story/when we're gone I feel I'll never miss anyone" pretty much says it for me. The "is this a dream" part, to me, speaks of love, of my relationship, as does the rest of the verse. the "for the moment we'll have our stay" line really captures my exact feelings toward whether or not this love will last. there's always the possibility that it won't, but for now we're happy, and that's what matters now. "You know tomorrow comes like disease to us" says the same thing, but more in fear than in contentment. it's like saying 'one day this will surely end, one way or another.' and the "i'm not cold tonight beside you" goes back to me being happy with what i have. a little worried at times, but tonight i am fine, everything is in its place.
anyway that's what this song means to me right now. it's perfect.
"You know that tomorrow comes like disease to us"
my favorite simile
lmao @ loser4all
i dunno what this song means, but it's awesome.
I think it's expatriate, not ex-patriot, btw.
I think the song might be about the obvious: touring and being away from home, and having tomorrow come imminently to bring them back home.
Amazing song, amazing band.
I just looked in the CD booklet, and yes, it IS expatriate.
I always wondered about that line, when I thought it was patriot, it never seemed to fit with the rest of the song.
But now I know.
