The Beautiful Ones Lyrics

Flies with a broken wing, she's ever so graceful, so like an angel,
but I see, tears flow quietly.

The struggle she's seen this spring, when nothing comes dancing,
paying a handsome fee, and still she smiles at me.

And I can't take it, no I can't help but wonder...

Why do we sacrifice the beautiful ones?
How do you break a heart of gold?
Why do we sacrifice our beautiful souls?
Heroes of tales unsung, untold.

Sweet as an angel sings, she gives though she has none left but the
last one, free, unhesitatingly.

And I am humbled, I'm a broken mirror, and I can't help but wonder...

Why do we sacrifice the beautiful ones?
How do you break a heart of gold?
Why do we sacrifice our beautiful souls?
Heroes of tales unsung, untold.

Why do we sacrifice the beautiful ones?
Why when they walk with love alone?
Why do we sacrifice our beautiful souls?
Just trying to find their way home.

For me this song is about how we always take advantage of people who want to help everyone. Even when they are burnt up people still keep asking and never stop and think for a minute that maybe they can do something back. Worse even, get angry when those golden-hearted people just can't do anything anymore.

I think this song is about how we sometimes forget that the greatest people in our world aren't always the ones who get all of the recognition for their actions. There are people who do amazing things, and yet nobody thanks them, or even thinks about them. Despite that, these people just keep giving everything they have to help others, undeterred by our lack of greatfulness. That is how we sacrifice our beautiful ones. Some of these people we forget about could be soldiers or other servicemen, or even just members of the peace crops or salvation army. All heros of tales unsung.

I am thinking she lost her husband in a war.. yet she is fighting through the pain to still smile at him.

To me this song kinda tells a story in a way. To me he's saying he sees a woman smiling but although everyone else doesn't see it he can see right through the forced smile. He is able to see the pain through the smile. this woman that he sees has been through a lot in her life but she still she is able to show a smile through all the hurt that shes been through. He sees that she is a beautiful woman inside and out, but her significant other doesn't see what they are doing to her. And hes asking himself why does this person do that to her and how can they break this woman heart when all she want is their love. It says to me realize what you have and don't take your loved one for granted.

that's just my interpretation it could be different from others.

Now....i'm not an expert at deciphering what people mean behind there songs by any means...because i can't read peoples minds on why they wrote it or what inspired them..but when i listen to this song and think of a meaning...it could also possibly be that a couple lost their daughter or child..and the man is speaking of his wife who is the one flying with the broken wing...with tears running down her face, the fact that shes been through the struggle of losing her child, yet she still smiles at her husband, though it's hard. Asking why we sacrifice the beautiful ones, breaking good peoples hearts of gold, who are happy and loving and perfect and love everybody. "Heroes of tales unsung untold" what i get out of this is that the child that is missing from their life was their hero who will never get to tell their story, no one will truly know what they could have done in life because the chance was taken away from them, and having the chance to love someone and have kids with them, all of that was taken away from them. Like i said, i'm far from calling myself any sort of an expert at pinpointing a song meaning because everyone gets different meanings from them, though i am happy to share my thoughts on it.
