Make Your Bed Lyrics
make your bed the river, young girl
make your bed the river, young girl
make your bed the river, young girl
did you come here to meet him, my dear?
you’re surprised to find only me
well, I put him to rest at the bend in the river
and the same I require of you
I'm thick with disease in my madness
only one thought pacifies me
that the murky black water grounds your bones to sand
when the catfish have stripped off your hide
make your bed the river, young girl
make your bed the river, young girl
I know you can’t swim, but I’ll tuck you in
make your bed the river, young girl
so go down as his trembling bride
far too frail our fury inside
and if there’s a chance the lord recognizes you
pray he has more mercy than I
make your bed the river young girl
make your bed the river young girl
I know you can’t swim, but I’ll tuck you in
make your bed the river, young girl
make your bed the river, young girl
make your bed the river, young girl
make your bed the river, young girl
you’re surprised to find only me
well, I put him to rest at the bend in the river
and the same I require of you
only one thought pacifies me
that the murky black water grounds your bones to sand

I know you can’t swim, but I’ll tuck you in

far too frail our fury inside
and if there’s a chance the lord recognizes you

I know you can’t swim, but I’ll tuck you in
make your bed the river, young girl
make your bed the river, young girl

creepily fantastic!
pretty self-explanatory...a woman who kills her cheating lover and comes for his mistress next.
Hm, I assumed that Neko was singing from a male POV: he killed his sweetheart's lover prior to her arrival at their rendezvous, and is now murdering her. This would be more in keeping with the tradition of murder ballads, so I guess your interpretation depends on whether you think Neko would be more likely to preserve or subvert said tradition.
Also, I think the line is:
"So go down as his trembling bride For to quell all this fury inside me"
So "Go down as his trembling bride" means what from a man's point?

That the male lover and cheating woman are now united -- married, if you will -- in death? Jeez, I think your snark to far-fetchedness ratio is a bit off.

I've always thought of it as a kinda serial killer thing... Green River killer...
The husband is a cheating bastard and is now dead/ the whore is next.
she's singing from a man's point of view. the killer murders first the dear girl's lover, and then the girl herself.
