Acrobat Lyrics
You've got to catch an early plane
And it's no surprise I'm standing still
Another minute more is all I need
I'll never have enough
This room gets so cold in the winter
What will it take to heat this house?
I just want to feel comfortable
When there's only the two of us in my bed
My foot nearly brushes your leg
I can't draw it away
I can't push it forward
It lies stranded
It belongs to someone else
We knew each other once
This can't be what you want
But you didn't have to demolish me
I don't remember losing sight of your needs
I don't remember losing sight of your needs
I am not an acrobat
I cannot perform these tricks for you
Losing all my balance
Falling from a wire made for you
The sky is often used as a metaphor
I suppose that's because it's so big and expansive
When a long stranded cloud sits just above the horizon
Leaving a strip of clear blue beneath it
It becomes the panorama
And you turn your head 360 degrees
And the same line follows you round
If the land is sufficiently flat
Really nothing can be compared to it
I don't remember losing sight of your needs
I don't remember losing sight of your needs
Your needs
I am not an acrobat
I cannot perform these tricks for you
Losing all my balance
Falling from a wire made for you
And it's no surprise I'm standing still
Another minute more is all I need
I'll never have enough
What will it take to heat this house?
I just want to feel comfortable
When there's only the two of us in my bed
My foot nearly brushes your leg
I can't draw it away
I can't push it forward
It lies stranded
It belongs to someone else
This can't be what you want
But you didn't have to demolish me
I don't remember losing sight of your needs
I cannot perform these tricks for you
Losing all my balance
Falling from a wire made for you
I suppose that's because it's so big and expansive
When a long stranded cloud sits just above the horizon
Leaving a strip of clear blue beneath it
It becomes the panorama
And you turn your head 360 degrees
And the same line follows you round
If the land is sufficiently flat

I don't remember losing sight of your needs
Your needs

Losing all my balance
Falling from a wire made for you

This is actually my favourite song on the album too.
It's just so desparate (what will it take to heat this house?) at the start and then the way he seems almost distracted as he talks about the sky, followed by "i don't remember losing sight off your needs." It's like no matter what he does, it can never be made right between him and the girl.
Love that line: "I don't remember losing sight of your needs" Is he rebuffing her accusation? Or is he admitting that it's all his fault? Totally contrasting meanings, the ambiguity is one of the things I really like about it
Strongest or weakest on the album? Reminds me of Arab Strap's Amor Veneris & The First Weekend of Summer.
This song is amazing. I liked it but often passed up on it but after seeing it live three times in one week I've understood it so much more. To watch what Paul puts himself through just to play that song...I've yelled at him about it but he's relentless to give off a good show. Bloody amazing if not idiotic bloke. If anyone wants it I recorded the first ever time they played it live on my camera so there's a video floating round.
i love this song specially the part of the sky
I like the way he says some of it. Reminds me of 'Parklife' by Blur a bit. Only their Geordies. (and Geordies are megacool, especially ones with neat hairdos eg.Paul Smith)
I quite liked this song just listening to it on cd, but when I listened with headphones on- it was like I finally connected . Live- it's amazing (wish I could buy it). "I don't rememeber losing sight of your needs"- so poignant. It takes me back to the loss of first love. An outstanding album overall.
It is a great song, quite sad though.
The keyboards are quite eery, like Cure circa. Disintegration. The contrast between the verses and the chorus really makes the song stand out. So different to all the other stuff they've done, I love it.
And _ellie, it's definitely not the weakest on the album, but not the strongest either. Hmm, it's very good though :)
this song reminds me a bit of atmosphere by joy division, in a way. it's my favourite song on the album. i agree, "i don't remember losing sight of your needs" is very poignant indeed.
