Numbered Days Lyrics

Daisy, I never thought I'd go
Crazy but I never thought you so
Until now that I see
All the crazy things you're doing
Why you wanna ruin it and me?

Counting numbered days

Lately I think you know it's true
That's it, it's all over I'm through
For a while we can smile
For the people that we're passing
And even if they're asking we can lie

Counting numbered days

Looks like the sun is gonna set
Know that there's nothing I regret
All the things that I learned
Well I'd like to think I earned it
No need to go and burn it down now

Counting numbered days
Counting numbered days

Oooooh, oooooooooooh.

God, this song is so sad and beautiful. It makes me want to have E's man-children.

I think this song is about relationships that are ending and how you shouldn't think of it as a bad thing like they say "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger"...atleast thats how I see it..great song

@Friendlyghost well actually i'm pretty sure it's a reference to a time in 1998 (song came out on his 2003 album but was in the works far before that) when we he was taking care of his cancer-ridden mother, the only family he had left alive.

Definitely my favorite Eels song. Not exactly sure what it means. There seems to be a death metaphor in there ("the sun is gonna set...there's nothing I regret" and then of course the chorus).

Might be about an elderly man who doesn't want to argue with his old love, or a family member ("no need to go and burn it down now" - like burning bridges).

@TooLongAwake well actually i'm pretty sure it's a reference to a time in 1998 (song came out on his 2003 album but was in the works far before that) when we he was taking care of his cancer-ridden mother, the only family he had left alive.

i think it's not so much death as the sun setting on a relationship. sounds like she's done something wrong and knows that he's gonna break up with her, but they can still pretend that it's alright and count the days til it's over.
