An Arrow In The Side Of Final Fantasy Lyrics

Drought's been hard, and
the cows are all slaughtered
But my love for you
needs no water

You miss your youth, and
You miss the city
Have no regret
Have no pity

Smoke blows thick, and
turns midday to midnight
But my love for you
needs no sunlight

Don't be saddened
Just look around, love
All things shining,
All things shining

I love this.. when the tempo and tune changes at 1:52, it makes me feel nostalgic for whatever reason.

The melody of this song is taken right from Super Mario Land 2's "Star Maze", the song from the second zero-gravity world of the Space Zone. The similarity is more than superficial, it's clearly a remake. This man is fantastic.

Actually, according to the CD booklet, "'An Arrow In The Side of Final Fantasy' is largely based on a melody from the game 'Six Golden Coins'." And now we know.

And now I see that these are apparently the same thing.

The last verse seems to be based on a quote from The Thin Red Line: "Oh, my soul. Let me be in you now. Look out through my eyes. Look out at the things you made. All things shining."

No-one has really tried to discuss the central theme of this song...to me, this song is actually a subtle criticism of optimistic, idealistic love with no roots in reality - "An Arrow in the Side of Final Fantasy."

"My love for you needs no water" - when you look at it, it's actually quite an absurd line. Everybody needs water to live; it's stupid to pretend that love can magically provide the essentials of life for you. How can all things shine when smoke and pollution have turned midday to midnight?
