Band of Gold Lyrics

Now that you're gone,
All that's left is a band of gold
All that's left of the dreams I hold
Is a band of gold
And the memories of what love could be
If you were still here with me

You took me from the shelter of my mother
I had never known or loved any other
We kissed after taking vows
But that night on our honeymoon,
We stayed in separate rooms

I wait in the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness, filled with gloom
Hoping soon
That you'll walk back through that door
And love me like you tried before

Since you've been gone,
All that's left is a band of gold
All that's left of the dreams I hold
Is a band of gold
And the dream of what love could be
If you were still here with me

INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Don't you know that I wait
In the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness, filled with gloom
Hoping soon
That you'll walk back through that door
And love me like you tried before

Since you've been gone,
All that's left is a band of gold
All that's left of the dreams I hold
Is a band of gold
And the dream of what love could be
If you were still here with me
(repeat and fade out)

Naive woman marries a man she didn’t understand was gay, or maybe neither of them understood he was gay.

AHHH best song ever. haha LOVE IT. She sings with passion.

Actually, this song is not about the lady singing herself. There seems to be another problem. She got married and took vows, but her new husband will not share a bed with her. She is left alone on her honeymoon and she is left waiting. The song seems to be sung in that bedroom right after the marriage. So this is not just some failed romance, there must be something else going on. What I think happened here is something I have seen actually happening with another couple. there the husband was actually gay but has not come out of the closet. He marries because he either thinks he should, or hides his orientation from society. The drama is that the girl does not understand this, yet. She becomes a victim of a gay-stigmatizing society, though she is not gay herself. That is the irony of the song. It depicts in a roundabout way an aspect of the Homofobic society.

My Interpretation

Too true, too true. Basically a song of a new marriage gone wrong.

I've always loved the way she sang this song. I usually play it a few times over and it gets stuck in my head (in the best way possible). Despite it being a sad song lyrically, it has an almost upbeat sound to it. There's so much optimism in her voice.

When the people we love can't be seen, all we have left are the objects that represented the relationship- wedding jewelry, photographs, letters. The beauty behind those objects lose their value- wedding rings simply become a band of gold. But she holds on to those items and stays hopeful that things will turn around.
