Stable Song Lyrics
Time for the final bow
Rows of deserted houses
All our stable mates highway bound
Give us our measly sum
Getting the air inside my lungs is heavenly
Starting out with nothing but crippling doubt
We'll rest easy (justified)
Suffered a swift defeat
I’ll endure countless repeats
The gift of memory's an awful curse
With age it just gets much worse
But I won't mind
I won't mind
I won't mind
I won't mind
Rows of deserted houses
All our stable mates highway bound
Getting the air inside my lungs is heavenly
Starting out with nothing but crippling doubt
I’ll endure countless repeats
The gift of memory's an awful curse
With age it just gets much worse
But I won't mind
I won't mind
I won't mind
I won't mind

i think its just about dealing with whatever you have to, how sometimes things are so good just breathing and simplicity are heavenly, sometimes you have nothing to look forward to but countless repeats, you realize it's never going to end, but eventually you just accept it anyway. learn to appreciate the little things and be able to rest easy despite whatevers going on.
i'm 100% positive that in "Stability" ben says 'Time for the final bout***' not 'bow'. in "Stable Song" its harder to distinguish if he says bow or bout. personally, i think he says bout, and based off of groovitude's $0.02, it probably should be bout.
beautiful song nonetheless. death cab=only band that matters.
It was so weird, the song started playing and I didn't really realize it was Stability until I started singing along unconsiously. Then I went, "Whoa, awesome love this song".
The meaning of Stable Song or Stability is really elusive...
When I saw 'Stable mates' in the lyrics I got into thinking about oppressed farmers... No? I can only guess...
Which version of Stability I prefer depends on my mood really. If it's late and I'm in a quiet We Have The Facts mood, I'll turn on the original and let the entire 12 minutes wash over me. It's minimalist, it's sleepy and it's soothing.
If I'm in the bigger mood for an epic singalong, I'll put on Stable Song with the guitar and the full band effect at the end.
They both work. :)
Here's a thought..... maybe its about living your life after someone you love has died? it would make sense..... with the death theme with plans....... tell me what ya think?
I've been thinking about this song and I ended up finding similarities between it and the Grapes of Wrath. Tsuppi said something about oppressed farmers. And in the book there's that whole thing of them not having a home ("rows of deserted houses") and going to California with "nothing but crippling doubt." Which is true because they started off with so much hope, and then they found nothing that they didn't have before: each other. Which may be the "we'll rest easy (justified)" part. Also, "I've suffered a swift defeat, I'll endure countless repeats," they've been evicted from their homes and they're going to have to keep fighting every obstacle just to stay alive. I'm not saying it's ABOUT the Grapes of Wrath, it's just that I interpreted similar themes. It's a stretch, but it's something new.
Its "bout" not "bow."
same song as stability, but shortened to 3:30 for plans.
best song on the album... love this version as much as the original, aaand as much as i love lengthy interludes, this one makes for a better on the go listen.
