Italy Lyrics
The day breaks, it's broken
And time comes undone
Standing still's the sun
I'm leaving this evening
But first night must come
Standing still's the sun
I am waiting under the sun
I am waiting for my time to come
I'm walking in circles that gradually grow
Still sunlight glows
On bridges
Past churches
Through fields I have roamed
Stillness 'round me glows
I am waiting under the sun
I am waiting for my time to come
Come away now
It's time to begin
Come away now
I'm coming, my friend
Come away now
We've all seen the end
Come away now
Oh, I'm coming, my friend
When is time going to change?
I'm ready
And time comes undone
Standing still's the sun
But first night must come
Standing still's the sun
I am waiting for my time to come
Still sunlight glows
Past churches
Through fields I have roamed
Stillness 'round me glows
I am waiting for my time to come
It's time to begin
Come away now
I'm coming, my friend
Come away now
We've all seen the end
Come away now
Oh, I'm coming, my friend
I'm ready

I get chills whenever I listen to this song. I don't think it's about death, although it could be, I think it's about any major transition in life-- when things around you seem stagnant, and still, like the quiet before the storm, you know that change is coming-- that time is going to change. It's a song about growing, about transformation, or at least being so ready for transformation that you're screaming it at the top of your lungs. Love, love, love.
eight minutes of heaven
beautiful.
I think it's about the beauty and timelessness of certain places... like, say, a trip through Italy, countryside and cityscape. That said, I third the complements.
This song reminds me of times when you take a minute to reflect or get caught in the moment and get the sensation that what your experiencing is just a dream. Time seems to stop for a second.
it's death, man! DEATH! srrsly.when he says he's leaving this evenin', he means he's gonna die! and when he says he's waiting for his time to come, and that he's "RRREEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDYYYYYY", that means he's ready TO DIE. why do you think he says he's ready with such vigor at the end? HUH
. . .so maybe i was a little quick to jump to the whole death thing. he's probably leaving to/from italy and is waiting for evening, like TheSundanceKid said but yeah, then it gets all metaphysical and shit and maybe in his endless waiting "standing still's the sun", and he starts thinking about other major changes, like death. and the last part is his mind wandering around, thinking about dying and time and shit. i like that idea a lot better than the whole thing being about death. 2009-me needs to calm down.

I am waiting under the sun... When is time going to change?
It's about transition. Could be either a spiritual or physical transition, or possibly both. The first half could be the physical aspect. He's leaving wherever he is (Italy?) that evening and is waiting in anticipation. The latter part of the song is more spiritual (When is time going to change? I'm ready) and could be alluding to death. Either way it's a beautiful set of lyrics to a beautiful song.
i resent my bro, who showed me this song. but i still LOVE this song! :D
