Listen (Listen, Listen) Lyrics
And even if the words don't sound right,
I will love you till the day my heart dies,
'Till the day my heart dies.
And even if this ain't the right light,
You're prettier than anything,
You're prettier than anything that I'd
Prettier than anything that I'd write.
There's something in the way our lips touch,
There's something in the way we're stuck together
And they don't build love like that no more.
You said you'd like it when the thunderstorms came,
Said you'd like if the thunderstorm just
pulled you piece by piece away.
I will love you till the day my heart dies,
'Till the day my heart dies.
You're prettier than anything,
You're prettier than anything that I'd
Prettier than anything that I'd write.
There's something in the way we're stuck together
And they don't build love like that no more.
Said you'd like if the thunderstorm just
pulled you piece by piece away.

This song makes me think of personal longing. Not knowing what you want, wanting one thing to work out and then really wondering about another thing. The singer is trying to convince someone of something, but he might not even mean it. Great song.
it's quite a lovely song :)
best winterlseep song.
unreal song...
sublime
This is the song that made me fall in love with Wintersleep. I see a parallel with most of Listen and my own life.
Chris_the_anithero: I think you're on to something when you say that the singer is trying to convince someone of something, but my interpretation is a bit different.
I think that maybe the person the lyrist is singing to is depressed or has given up. That maybe she wants it all to just end, but the singer wants the oppostite. He believes ther's moer for her, that she is amazing.
I was really high when i first heard this song. I swear it was the greatest feeling i've ever gotten from any song ever. the music and singing was soo good.. I just closed my eyes and listened. It was like an out of body experience. it blew my fuckin mind!! I still get the same feeling listening to it.. a long flight does it too.
i think the speaker is approaching this situation feeling very inappropriate. he obviously loves whoever he is speaking to, but the mentions of "even if the words don't sound right" and "even if this isn't the right light" makes it seem like he feels wrong about this love even though he still undeniably feels it. this inappropriateness might have something with the self-effacement whomever he is speaking to longs for, what with the thunderstorm tearing them "piece by piece away". but at the same time, they are "stuck together", so the speaker feels this impending doom as well -- "til the day my heart dies". they are entwined, like in any love song. but it is such a fresh take, riddled with the burden sensitive romantics feel. i love it, the imagery, the meaning, everything. beautiful.
My most beloved Wintersleep song <3
