We Close Our Eyes Lyrics
Inside everyone hides one desire
Outside no one would know
Danger close to edge of the knife
Safer not to let go
And while we miss chances
You can almost hear time slipping away
chorus
We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes to time slipping away
No show Wednesday girl waits with the wine
She knows just what to say
While no one listens
You can almost hear time slipping away
repeat chorus
We can talk to strangers
We are burning with the spark
And we can walk on water
We are tigers in the dark
We are burning
We close our eyes
Heroes never give into the night
He knows how far he can run
And as he surrenders
You can almost hear time slipping away
Repeat chorus to fade
Outside no one would know
Danger close to edge of the knife
Safer not to let go
And while we miss chances
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes to time slipping away
She knows just what to say
While no one listens
You can almost hear time slipping away
We are burning with the spark
And we can walk on water
We are tigers in the dark
We are burning
He knows how far he can run
And as he surrenders
You can almost hear time slipping away

The song to me seems to be about how you can close your eyes and do anything within the realm of your own mind. You can talk to strangers, walk on water, whatever you like. However it serves as a warning not to spend too much time dreaming and to do the most you can with what you have in reality. Every second of your life not used constructively is a second lost.
It's about how within your own mind you can do anything, but that in reality it's not quite so easy. With eyes closed, while escaping into the realm of imagination you can talk to strangers, walk on water, whatever. However, the song cautions: "We close our eyes, but time's slipping away". You have to make use of time and achieve what you can in the real world, while accepting your shortcomings and not spending too many hours dreaming about what you could have been.
The song is actually called
"We Close Our Eyes" not 'We Closed our eyes'
Also its...
"We close our eyes to see the final flame" not "We close our eyes to see the final frame"
As for the meaning I sort of agree with DAVIDINTEL but i think theres more to it than that aswell.
Yeah, how do we get the title corrected? I always wondered if this song had more to do with unsafe sex. It can be about anything dealing with reality vs. fantasy, but I know it came out during the height of when HIV-AIDS was such a prominent subject in the US and UK. I am not sure if the band is or has gay or straight members, but I also always thought maybe they were gay. It makes no difference though as this is a great song either way. I do not really like any of their other music except...

I do not really like any of their other music except this one, but again I think the lyrics may relate to taking changes with casual sex (or even monogamous relationships) for both gay and straight people. I hate that I think this as it seems to be the most common thing I see on these lyric sites... "oh, that song is about a gay or sexual this or that..." anyway-the song still rocks.
I meant to say taking "chances" with casual sex, not "changes...sorry.

Reality can be harsh and also humbling at the same time. In our minds we can do anything, but in the real world we are far more limited.
