She wants to be able to let go of the problems her family's had. The holidays can be hectic; she just wants to keep things civil.

Once again, with the remaining civil. She's just trying to be nice, but obviously her family begins to get on her nerves.

Here, you can see her losing hope...snapping at people, being angry. She just wants out.

See? She explicitly says she wants out. "Just for now" seems more like reassurance that it'll all be over soon than encouragement to get along with her family by the end of the song. Love this song. She's got a gorgeous voice. It's rare that you'll find personality in electronica, but Imogen manages. You have to respect that. She's very listenable.

it's absolutly about a family gattering. and imogean just does what she's so good at: creates a realistic scenary mixing lyrics and melody, building an image of the members of our own family in situations we can feel bounded to. therefor all this diferent interpertations posted here, i guess. btw, the live version at studio 11 103.1fm is great, if nothing else, by the simple fact that she makes a whole song using only vocal and clapping hands :)

I love this song! Hmm one change, I'd say it might be "Whoever put on this music/Better quick sharp remove it", maybe! As in the phrase, 'quick sharp'. Annyway, otherwise, all good!

I'm in love with this song, it's just so easy on the ears and my heart, her voice is just beautiful.

This sounds like a family that attempts to put all the problems of their life aside during the holidays to celibrate being together.

I'd say that's definately a family with kids.

At the end though there is an overall sense of dread and foreboding. Although the family has put aside it's hopelessness they all know it will return soon enough so at the end you hear

"Get me outta here (x13)"

Ya reminds me of spending time with the family. I cant believe how short the song is. Its short but sweet.

She talks about:

This could be a holiday with the family. I think a christmas get together with a family. There are always disagreements between family, but it is saying "It's that time of year Leave all our hopelessness’s aside"

We all are irritated with our families, but it is the holiday that brings us together.

Oh, and it's "muffle the smoke alarm," instead of "might fool".

Recent imogen fan, loving her songs. Theres not many bands/groups with music I would desribe as "gorgeous" but immi is one of them:-) I love the line "*sniff sniff I think something is burning" so cute.lol. Shes playing this month, I might just have to go along. peace matt H

yet another correction... "tears stop here" "i know we've all had a bumpy ride" i think it's that all too familiar "gotta love them because they're family" feeling. it's apparent she's not enjoying herself yet she repeats "i'm secretly on your side" god only knows how much i can't stand to be around my sister...but she's family, so naturally i love her no matter what. :-)
