Tenement Funster Lyrics
My new purple shoes, bin' amazing the people next door
And my rock and roll 45's, bin' enraging the folks on the lower floor
I got a way with the girls on my block
Try my best to be a real individual
And when we go down to Smokies and rock
They line up like it's some kinda ritual
Oooh give me a good guitar
And you could say that my hair's a disgrace
Or just find me an open car
I'll make the speed of light out of this place
Mmm, I like the good things in life
But most of the best things ain't free (ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Some same situation just cuts like a knife
When you're young and you're poor and you're crazy (crazy)
(Young and you're crazy) (Young and you're crazy)
(Young and you're crazy)
Oooh give me a good guitar
And you could say that my hair's a disgrace
Or just buy me an open car
I'll make the speed of light out of this place
And my rock and roll 45's, bin' enraging the folks on the lower floor
Try my best to be a real individual
And when we go down to Smokies and rock
They line up like it's some kinda ritual
And you could say that my hair's a disgrace
Or just find me an open car
I'll make the speed of light out of this place
But most of the best things ain't free (ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Some same situation just cuts like a knife
When you're young and you're poor and you're crazy (crazy)
(Young and you're crazy) (Young and you're crazy)
(Young and you're crazy)
And you could say that my hair's a disgrace
Or just buy me an open car
I'll make the speed of light out of this place

I could agree with that! I guess there's not much to comment on...the meaning seems fairly obvious. It sounds like it's about a guy trying to make it as a rockstar and having some difficulties.
I wonder if Roger really had purple shoes...
@TheYipskee he had pink glittering shoes.
@TheYipskee he had pink glittering shoes.
This is about a hippie rockstar (purple shoes, long hair, smokies... it's obvious) who is unpopular with the conformative, stuffy older people in his apartment building. Erm, that is all. CHOW! And don't touch the sushi.
XOXOXO, Roxanne

No comments? You people are a disgrace. This is one of the best Queen songs, ever.
Roxanne has it exactly right
Not keen on the song, but I love the piano outro into Flick of the Wrist.
Yeah, I agree with Amy_darling. I'm not very keen on this song either, but I really like Flick of the Wrist...
I always thought it was a bout th dream of being a big rock star but having little money and knowing that in reality stardom will probably never happen.
I love Roger's singing^-^!!!
good song
This song is a classic. I do it with my rock band and it is the bomb. Very underrated song. Great feel, energy. One of Taylor's best! Queen lives on!!!! Check out my band on www.myspace.com/selfredemption
