Rocking Chair Lyrics
I once knew a girl, who once knew me
She built me a white picket fence of virtual reality
And our friends all smiled while they bit their tongues
'Cause we're bound to make mistakes when we're young
I can't say I disagree
Since I can't forget you
Please call
So I don't regret you
At all
Something to do to pass the time
Rocking chair, rocking chair
Thought it would ease my mind
Rocking chair
I once knew a girl with nothing to lose
Now I'm left here singing the blues
Since I can't forget you
Please call
So I don't regret you
At all
Something to do to pass the time
Rocking chair, rocking chair
Thought it would ease my mind
Rocking chair
Nice to know you care
And thanks for the chance
To learn everything that's wrong
With love and romance
Thought you would ease my mind
Thought you would ease my mind
Thought you would ease my mind
I once knew a girl who never knew me
She built me a white picket fence of virtual reality
'Cause we're bound to make mistakes when we're young
I can't say I disagree
Please call
So I don't regret you
At all
Rocking chair, rocking chair
Thought it would ease my mind
Rocking chair
Now I'm left here singing the blues
Please call
So I don't regret you
At all
Rocking chair, rocking chair
Thought it would ease my mind
Rocking chair
And thanks for the chance
To learn everything that's wrong
With love and romance
Thought you would ease my mind
Thought you would ease my mind

Written after a relationship ended that ripped his world apart, Dave pulled himself together enough to clean out his closet with this song. This is the first song he ever wrote. Understanding the consequences and the causes of the failed relationship, he compared it to a rocking chair, in that it gave him something to do, but never got him anywhere. It only left him worse than before and in desperate need of somebody to understand him, rather than jump to silly conclusions.
