If something has to change then it always does
If something has to change then it always does
You don't need this disease, not right now

Punchy, dynamic, to the point. And fucking catchy. MMm.
I thought it was just a boy meets girl, girl meets another boy, first boy gets jealous.
But if they came forward with the real meaning..
They did? Where? When? What is it? Man, don't leave us hangin' :)
They did? Where? When? What is it? Man, don't leave us hangin' :)
I have two theories about the meaning of this song. The first is a self loathing sort of rejection, could he be saying "you dont need me"? The second is a more literal interpriation, could it be about a family member to falls ill? This would also explain the theme of things changing in the verses well. Great song anyway
This song seems to fit with other songs, like Weight the of World sounds like a person dying slowly.... and Racing Rats "when the time comes that you're no longer there, fall down to my knees...." etc... I mean, they have so many recurring themes in their songs...
I love the band. I love the song, but for different reasons. Man, I wish I could delete some of the wickedly bitchy comments left on this site, but I cannot. Anyway, the song is about not wanting to infect another, but "infection" could be anything. The lyrics are so repetitive that the singer is obviously working hard to convince him/herself that he's trying to spare the other person....to be kind to her. However, due to the repetitiveness, it's obvious (to me) that the song is about someone who doesn't wish to be judged/characterized by his disorder/weakness, yet is his own harshest judge and critic. (He sees himself only in the light of his disorder.) In other words, he protests too much:) So, the song is about someone who allows fear to keep him from taking risks in his life that might actually bring him real happiness and love and support and friggin' laughter! Ah, good song and very good band...
I like the first theory.
Second one is more rational.
Maybe more rational, but according to the Editors the truth. Great band, great song.
I saw the editors the other week live and I was wondering about the meaning of the song. I think he's singing to a relative who's alcoholic. He's saying you have to change and if you don't, some thing will have to give. He's saying that the relative is needed in other parts of peoples life and if they don't give up the booze, they'll 'fall down'. Just my thought really.
Fantastic song and fantastic band! But why is this song named "Bullets"? Is it because the words in the chorus sound like shooting from a machine gun? :) Just a thought.
to me i knwo this has nothing to do with the real meaning, but its about self loathign ofyourself and knowing that you ahve tochange btu things are nto simple and warning people to not come close and not catch this disease. they shouldnt knwo you and leave you alone
