Dirty Words Lyrics

How many days in the weekend?
We should follow this one
How many days in the weekend?
We should follow this one
How many times do her eyes have to meet yours?
How many days in the weekend?
We should follow this one

Think of the lines you could've said
Pick me up, oh they're just dirty words
Think of the thoughts running around her head

She'd be game if you would just play
She'd be game if you would just play
She'd be game if you would just play
Oh, if you would just play

How many days in the weekend?
Take me out of this one
How many days in the weekend?
Take me out of this one
You blew all your chances but so what?
How many days in the weekend?
Take me out of this one

If life is a teacher then I'll be a preacher's son
Well it's a steady job
At least it's a steady job
Look what you've got yourself into
I said look what you've got yourself into

Oh they're just dirty words (x8)

I think this is possibly one of the strongest records on the album, don't know why it's last?

Anyway, I'm a little confused on some of the meaning of this one. It seems as if the entire song are things he says to himself, or perhaps his thoughts?

I'm pretty sure the guy wants to talk to this certain girl, or ask her out (something along those lines) and he's trying to pluck up the courage to do it. He want's to go for it, but perhaps he's scared.

By the second verse he's messed it all up it seems! He's obviously said something wrong, thus the 'dirty words' !!

I really like the part 'If life is a teacher then i'll be a preachers son...look what you got yourself into...' but have no idea what it all means!! Perhaps he wants to be different and go for the unobvious option? Not sure. Any other suggestions?
