Burford Stomp Lyrics

(chorus x2)
They'll bury us down further in the ground,
Than we ever dug down for a living.
Seven years of fighting for the dead man's shilling.

Four hundred honest men
Ran to Cromwell's call
Four hundred honest men
Are now waiting by the wall
Four hundred honest men
Ran to Cromwell's call
Four hundred honest men
Are now waiting by the wall

CHORUS X2

Four hundred honest men
Ran to Cromwell's call
Four hundred honest men
Now waiting by the wall
We are four hundred honest men,
And nothing have we got,
'Cause Free-born John is in the Tower
And tomorrow we'll be shot.

CHORUS X2

Cover art for Burford Stomp lyrics by Levellers

I have never heard this song, but look what I found on a webpage about Burford:

In May 1649 at the end of the English Civil War, 340 of the Levellers were rounded up and imprisoned in Burford Church by Cromwell and his men. Carvings from the incarcerated soldiers and the bullet holes of the three executed ring leaders can still be seen to this day.

Its on Rev Hammer album freeborn john
