Reindeer Lyrics

Reindeer, reindeer, reindeer
I caught one of your horns
And even if it rains here
It's much worse in the north

Reindeer, reindeer, reindeer
I caught one of your horns
And even if it rains here
It's much worse in the north

And you move like shadows
In the dark
And you glitter and you glimmer
And you bark

Moon's light the feathers
The sleigh this year is heavier
I thought we'd reached Warzava
But we are stuck in Vasa

And Santa here is faster
This house must be the last now
And we follow mister Santa
To the end

Reindeer, reindeer, reindeer
Your formate friend
Humble heavy loaded
And soon it's time again

And you move like shadows
In the dark
And you glitter and you glimmer
And you bark

Moon's light the feathers
The sleigh this year is heavier
I thought we'd reached Warzava
But we are stuck in Vasa

And Santa here is faster
This house must be the last now
And we follow mister Santa
To the end

Moon's light the feathers
The sleigh this year is heavier
I thought we'd reached Warzava
But we are stuck in Vasa

And Santa here is faster
This house must be the last now
And we follow mister Santa
To the end

And we follow mister Santa
To the end
And we follow mister Santa
To the end
And we follow mister Santa
To the end
And we follow mister Santa
To the end

Moon's light the feathers
The sleigh this year is heavier
I thought we'd reached Warzava
But we are stuck in Vasa

And Santa here is faster
This house must be the last now
And we follow mister Santa
To the end

I think it's "hooves light as feathers," not the moons. Reindeer are able to fly thanks in part to their hooves, which are more aerodynamic than those of other ungulates. It has nothing to do with the moon. That's just ridiculous.

I think its "Hooves like feathers" not moon. and its "and santa he yells faster" makes more sense then "and santa here is faster"

There are not may songs I can think of about Reindeer. It's another sombre and dark song, also mentioning "The North" which features in other lyrics by The Knife. Now, I'd be impressed if Carol singers turned up on my doorstep with this one :)

This is a beautiful song... But I think it's supposed to be 'Hooves light as feathers' instead of 'Moon's light as feathers'...

My interpretation hinges on the line "The sleigh this year is heavier." The song may be about increasing consumerism as a result of globalization. Maybe that's why there's the line "It's much worse in the North." The song depicts the negative consequences for the reindeer and Santa... who represent childhood innocence?

i like your interpretation very much.

I agree with Savvy that it reads mass slaughter/consumerism at the behest of DC or the West in general.

Check the lines I thought 'we'd reached Warsava' (home of Chopin)/ But we are stuck in Vasa {the Swedish ship that sank less than a nautical mile from her maiden Voyage)*.

It really speaks to the classical inclinations of The Knife's true creative genius, the ability to craft electronic grandeur the likes of classical music yet knowing or grappling with the thought of being that sinking ship that only floated in the sea of life for but a flicker in the vast emptiness that is infinity. ANywAy, The Knife's debut is fucking strong. Better than 'Deep Cuts'.

*In the 17th century, the design requirements and calculations for building a ship only existed in the head of the shipwright. Scientific theories on vessel design or stability had not yet been developed, so important factors like the ship's center of gravity had to be estimated from the builder's experience. The hull of Vasa was divided into three decks and a bottom compartment containing the ballast, which consisted of large, tightly packed stones. Upon salvaging, the ship was found to have an intact hold full of ballast stones. Vasa carried 120 tonnes of ballast, but this was not enough to counter her considerable weight above the water line; even a light squall would have seriously destabilized the ship
