Kicking The Heart Out Lyrics
baby wants to get in the money
oh she wants to share it with me
on Tuesdays we go walking,
talking about another degree
you can’t stop kicking the heart out
and you’re a practical mess
behind links of celebrity dropouts
you’re just a shepherd, but oh well
what makes the wild wind whistle?
what makes the birdies sing?
i’m hutched down in a huddle,
talking about another degree
but oh, you’re 25 for an hour
and I’m related to it,
for hearts that don’t make sense
if music is my lover
you are just a tease
you make love to a shadow
whose face is hallow money
oh she wants to share it with me
on Tuesdays we go walking,
talking about another degree
and you’re a practical mess
behind links of celebrity dropouts
you’re just a shepherd, but oh well
what makes the birdies sing?
i’m hutched down in a huddle,
talking about another degree
and I’m related to it,
for hearts that don’t make sense
you are just a tease
you make love to a shadow
whose face is hallow money

This is more of an elaboration on what hbweb500 said.
I think it's very personal to someone in the band. Someone is or was in a relationship where occupational success was at the forefront of the girlfriend's life. The song is performed in a very condescending tone, but the lyrics are actually convincing her to embrace her emotions, her heart, and not to worry and put so much emphasis on financial success.
Kind of ironic that he says that she is "behind links of celebrity dropouts" when she's a shepherd, and I know the irony is intentional, but I'm not sure what it means. He goes on about how she is smart and drives for success, so she is obviously nothing close to a dropout. Maybe she associates with celebrities who care nothing for their future, and they live spontaneously, loosely, furiously, and risky? Don't know, really.
Above all else, seems he wants much more, and it seems he wants her to see that, but he also realizes that she never will until she's found all her "success" in life.
I really like this song! I couldn't really say what it's about though cuz I tend just to listen to songs rather than try and decipher the meaning...But at a guess....He's with a chick who longs to be successful and rich? And is kinda obsessed with it?
The first time I heard this song I thought he said "you make love to a shadow/whose face is part of my knee" Hahahahaha. Oh man I'm retarded.
duuuuuuuuude these lyrics are wrongggggggg. but i cant say much because i dont actually know them any better i guess. but they are not right. so fix them
oh yea, I like the song a lot :)
hmm well, this explanation may only work for part of the lyrics, so its probably not right, but i always thought that it was about a girl that he likes more than just a friend and she sort of strings him along but never likes him in the same way.
i dont know, i could be completely off, but that's just what i always think of when i listen to it.
She likes him to.. "oh she wants to share it with me". But he is pissed off because she loves money and fame more than him. She is too materialistic. I can relate to this song because my girlfriend is reallllly materialistic, but no matter how much i tell myself to stay away from her, im still with her... "for hearts that don't make sense"
my opinion is that this song talks about a failing relationship and a girl ending up being for 25 an hour... cant explain it detailed tho...
I noticed a lot of collegiate imagery in this song. "Talking about another degree," "celebrity drop-outs," "25 for an hour."
I don't think this is a coincidence. I think it is about a college relationship where the girl is ambitious. She is talking about getting another degree (doctorate, medicine?). Her ambition is getting in the way of their relationship. Ultimately he feels that she is wasting her youth (25 for an hour) and thinks that she is essentially having an affair with ambition rather than dedicating herself to him.
