Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away Lyrics

I found a new face
A new image staring up at me
Let the cool goddess rust away
Let the cool goddess rust away

You're so different in a different way
But what goes up has so far down to fall
So go salvage some of that human dignity
It'll be a long hard road

Are you asking about artificial intelligence?

I think he's speaking to someone (most likely a female - goddess reference) who's very vain who's just lost her beauty. Maybe an accident that has marred or disfigured her somehow.

He's telling her to buck up cause now she'll have dig (salvage) deep and find herself again -- and to learn to be free of her vanity.

Vanity is a luxury that some people get robbed of and it cripples them. Or they never had it the first place and buy their beauty. And deep down in their gut, they feel and know that they started out ugly. (this futility helps perpetuate the whole vanity thing)

To me, this song sounds like he's trying to tell her he knows and understands. And though it may not be the face she wants, it's better than the goddess one she was faking.

on my humble opinion...

some parts sound exactly like radiohead's "stop whispering" ... anyone else agree?

I have a bit of a different take on the song. I think the main character has meet someone new and is trying toforget the Cool Godess" that came before. The line "In a different way" always sounded like a good thing to me. It seems like he's saying that he's never met someone like you before. Thats why I don't think its about someone that has changed for the worst.

To me it sounds like he is trying to forget the past and move on but the memory of this girl makes him fearful of getting hurt again.

@SomethingClever how do I give 100 ups? You made me cry b/c I had this elation when this song came on that told me to listen for something relatable. And what you describe of this song is just that. 💗

With this song I have come to find that most people either love it, or absolutely hate it. And it has a lot to do with this guy's voice.

I personally enjoy it a lot! Especially when he gets to the end of "Let the cool goddess rust away way way way" And he just repeats that last word. I think it sounds beautiful.

Anyone else getting an A.I. vibe with this song? With the cool goddess rusting away in front of someone else? And having to be salvaged? What with the human dignity?

Anyone?

I think pamelachae is approaching it from the right angle, but the song title ("cool goddess") seems to be describing this woman's 'coolness factor' and not really her 'beauty'

I agree with the vanity assessment. The singer suggests that beneath the hollow, empty, 'act' which coolness amounts to, there is an obscured and marginalized human dignity. In a way, the vanity that a lot of people can get locked into is dehumanizing - it's tiring to maintain the illusion, that image you present to everyone, when underneath there's perhaps a starving 'true' identity.

The line "You're so different / In a different way" seems to capture what being cool is all about: a subtle and controlled iconoclasm to make people think certain ways toward you. But, as the singer says, "what goes up has so far down to fall / So go salvage / Some of that human dignity / It'll be a long /Hard / Road"

People need to stop being so superficial and trying to meet 'cool' expectations.

I agree with pamelachae and eagle-bear. It says "I found a new face" so I was thinking maybe he's meeting up with an old friend and realized she's changed into this popular and vain "goddess" and he's probably trying to tell her to be real. Don't put on some facade. "What goes up has so far down to fall" Makes me think of a sort of social pyramid, how she's so high up there that if she begins to act like a real person and not this superficial-type person then it's gonna hit her hard when she falls from the social pyramid. I dunno'. Just my take on interpreting it. :)

Or maybe he's not even telling her to her face. Perhaps he's just thinking about the whole situation. -shrug-
