Beyond the Sunrise Lyrics
Joseph was traveling with a heavy load
His dreams were broken
And deep sorrow flowed from his brow
Closer to sundown he prepared to rest
Set down the burden, lay upon his chest
Then she came
"Sir, come to me and I will keep you warm
Taste hope in my skin and faith with the dawn
You will rise
Beyond the sunrise, that is where we live
Feeding our counsel and true comfort give
Traveling men"
Joseph was sure the liquor had caused this dream
His eyes were sure that heaven was not her scene
She was no saint
"Sir, come to me and I will keep you warm
Taste hope in my skin and faith with the dawn
You will rise"
His dreams were broken
And deep sorrow flowed from his brow
Set down the burden, lay upon his chest
Then she came
Taste hope in my skin and faith with the dawn
You will rise
Feeding our counsel and true comfort give
Traveling men"
His eyes were sure that heaven was not her scene
She was no saint
Taste hope in my skin and faith with the dawn
You will rise"

all of the people who commented above, need to appreciate a good song when you hear it. Nevermind if it fits with the artists typical style
Oddly enough (I guess, based on these comments) this is one of my favorites from "Fold Your Hands Child". It's not instep with typical B&S but it's interesting nonetheless.
lol i'm sorry but the deep voice just doesn't work for me.
this song was cool when i used to think it was johnny cash. as it is i believe all songwriting duties should be handed over to stuart, forever
I think this song gets unfairly pegged as wretched. sure, it's not great, and doesn't fit at all with the rest of the Belle and Sebastian catalogue, but it's actually interesting if not terrific. Isobel has said that this should have gone on the Gentle Waves record that she was making at the same time, and the whole thing sounds like an early version of her Ballad of the Broken Seas.
and it's definitely not terrific
i find these lyrics pretty interesting actually. awesome lyrics. the song is good, but not great.
