I can't remember what is wrong I've been happy now for way too long and oh, we got a lot more to go

I think this is a person thinking about how they can't remember the problems they used to be concerned with because they find they have been happy for a long time now. At the same time they are just waiting for things to go wrong, thus "way too long, and oh, we got a lot more to go" which is kind of saying if your happy now your going to be sad again later. That's life.

I put a trash can by the road and filled it up just to lighten my load but oh, I got no where to go

I think this is describing the person attempting to get rid of all their problems, once they do they feel better but have no where to go because they are starting anew.

@ Bobjoesuckawits. The I found a pearl in the snow and the preceding lines is talking about looking on the bright side of life and creating your own happiness through a positive attitude. How else would you find a pearl in snow, or sunshine at the end of the day. He "has been happy for way too long" because he learned to move on and forget his loneliness and problems and break free. A fish in the sea CANT be alone is the point, you just have to look up and move on from your problems with a good attitude. He put a trash can by the road and filled it up with his problems. Taking out the trash, and that is how he lightened his load. This is my favorite song on this album!

It seems that every thinks can say I can totally relate to you, or that they have been through that but they aren't going through it at that time, so they don't know how you feel. for that moment you feel like no one understands you or just completely alone... I think the song is about how lonely a city can be even when you are surrounded by people. I can't interpret the lyrics about finding a pearl in the snow and the first verse I don't think the fit well.

I think this song is about loss and not knowing how to fix things. Thus, not being able to remember what even went wrong. They know they had been happy and then it was gone. They've learned to deal with it, by lightening their troubled heart by walking away (lightening their load) and moving on, even if they have no where to go and probably didn't want to. People lose things they care about, and don't always know how to make it right, and they think it's too hard, so rather than trying to make things right, most of the world just move on, even with so many fish in the sea, or people around them, they feel alone from their losses. They have known happiness thus, finding a special someone like finding a needle in the hay or a pearl in the snow and sunshine, but somehow they lost what they had. While others are right there around them, they still feel completely alone. Thus, the way of the world, and the world may never know, how to fix such realities.
