London Still Lyrics
Wonder if you can pick up my accent on the phone
When I call across the country, when I call across the world
I see you in my kitchen, I can picture you now
As you toast to your small town when you drink the happy hour
I'm in London still
I'm in London still
I'm in London still
I took the tube over to Camden to wander around
I bought some funky records with that old Motown sound
And I miss you like my left arm that's been lost in a war
Today I dream of home and not of London anymore
But I'm in London still
I'm in London still
Yeah, I'm in London still
You know it's okay, I'm kinda happy here for now
I think I've finally grown up and got myself a lover now
If I ever come home, and I, I think I will
I hope you're gonna wanna hang at my place on Sunday still
Oh yeah I hope you will
'Cause I'm in London still
You know we got it sorted, yeah, we really got it down
To a fine art on Sunday in a sleepy Sunday town
I wonder what I'm missing, I think of songs I've never heard
I'm dreaming of your voices, oh and I'm dreaming of your herb
And I'm in London still
I'm in London still
I'm in London still
'Cause I'm in London still
La-la-la-la-la London still
I'm in London
When I call across the country, when I call across the world
I see you in my kitchen, I can picture you now
As you toast to your small town when you drink the happy hour
I'm in London still
I'm in London still
I'm in London still

And I miss you like my left arm that's been lost in a war
Today I dream of home and not of London anymore
But I'm in London still

No comments yet? I guess this song is taken for granted. Very, very good. I love Aussie music :).
I've only ever heard the live version of this song (and all Waifs songs, from A Brief History) but that seems to be where they're at their best, nonetheless. This song's got great moood.
I must say I wish my favourite song, Gillian, had been accepted on this site though. :(
So full of longing i no its a sad song but it makes me smile
fantastic song. its one of the few songs that i can hear EVERY day at work, and still not get sick of it (and that is seriously saying something)
i like the lyrics for this - the part about picking up her accent on the phone i think is genius, i heard this on a free magazine CD - which must be like - the best free one ever as it actually has alot of good songs on
wonder if you can pick up my ACCENT ON THE PHONE
ahaha that always makes me laugh
good song
This song has my favourite lyric line of all songs; "...if I ever come home and I, I think I will, I hope you're gonna want to hang at my place on Sundays still. Oh yeah I hope you will".
I love this because I think that the song is about the longing to return to a small home town. It reminds me of my own home town and lazy Sundays hanging out with friends. Apart from that I love this song as it seems to be one of the top Waifs songs that evokes a lot of emotion at their gigs. Which may be because it's one of their more popular ones.
I agree with Heliamaphora and wish that Gillian (live version ;) ) was on here. Definitely in my top 5 Waifs songs.
Love this song. There's a massive culture in Australia of young people going over and living in London/the UK for a couple of years. If you go to London every second person you meet is an Aussie or New Zealander (or South African for that matter!) This song is just about how she's finding it ironic that she used to dream of going away and living in London and now all she can think about is home, and she hopes it hasn't changed! I lived in the UK for a year and this song was GUARANTEED to generate some serious homesickness. Gorgeous song:) Love The Waifs!

It's been TWENTY years since the released "Up All Night". Good grief-- as if finding out White Wedding is FORTY this year wasn't bad enough!

I'm an Aussie by transplant and I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
