Butterfly Lyrics
Mom told me I had her pretty eyes
Mom told me I'd be a butterfly
Mom told me of angels in the sky
Mom told me good people never die
It's not fair
It's not fair
It's not fair
Mom told me I'd be a butterfly
Mom told me of angels in the sky
Mom told me good people never die
It's not fair
It's not fair

I'm not quite sure about this song, however it is one of the most powerful and haunting songs I've ever heard.. I guess, it's just what his mother told him that he'd be and he feels he can't live up to what she wants him to be.
It's about that moment (or those moments) when you realise what your parents told you wasn't necessarily true, and all your childhood optimism and hope and faith in the world fades away and you're left with the dark truth that the world isn't always fair, and there isn't always justice, like when good people die. I think that's why it's called Butterfly, it's like you're being forced out of the the cocoon of childhood.
wow yeah bang on. Good song... creepy...
i've always think that his mom said all this beautiful and hopeful things in his childhood, and then she died. that why its not fair ("Mom told me good people never die"). he believed in what his mother said, and now he is hopeless because she died and he can't be how great as his mom though he would be.
Yeah, when I heard the lyrics I also figured it was about his mother dying. Now that she's gone he feels like he doesn't know what to believe anymore. Basically... what the others already said. :P
