i love this band aswell but i have NO idea what this song means anyone shed some light?

what use is a bulletproof vest when you have no heart to protect - the girl is heartless, she doesn't care about him, he's her friend but still treats him like and enemy
whoops, that comment was for a different song.
no wait it was relevant, well half of it. the bulletproof vest bit is obviously for another song.
Basically I think this song is about him having to tip toe around somebody to keep them happy, he does so much for her to "save confrontation" but she doesn't appreciate it at all shown in the line "you say I'm useless as a million miles of cellotape"
He walks on eggshells for her, putting himself in "this awkward position" for her benefit and it's starting to ruin their friendship

He realises at the end of the song that he cannot help her if she's not going to listen to him and resigns to the fact that she cannot be made to see what she's doing wrong and thus cannot be helped.
whoa there greg. long explan. it means that he wants them to be friends still, but they've been arguing and although he looks out for her but she stabs his back. good like ALL their songs.
