Our Last Night Lyrics
We were standing in an empty room
The moonlight was falling
You were holding my hand when the car pulled up for you
And I could have spent a life with you
But those days were over
You were calling my name when your face faded from view
And wasn't it you who told me the sun would always chase the day
And wasn't it you who told me:
Angels fly in the air tonight
Saying wasn't it just like swimming out on the lake?
And stars collide and the air's alive
Or was it just like those promises that you made
On our last night?
I remember waking up with you
The days doing nothing
You meant more to me then than I think you ever knew.
But you were gonna be a doctor, movie star
A poet at a Nobel seminar
I hope the world never tore that out of you
Cause wasn't it you who told me the sun would always chase the day
Yeah wasn't it you who told me:
And what ever happened to the things you loved
And the songs we played, and the indian days
Whatever happened to the things you gave away?
Like Harold and Maude singing
Like Harold and Maude singing
I was waving as you drove away
The sunlight was falling
You were writing backwards in a dusty window pane
The moonlight was falling
You were holding my hand when the car pulled up for you
And I could have spent a life with you
But those days were over
You were calling my name when your face faded from view
And wasn't it you who told me:
Saying wasn't it just like swimming out on the lake?
And stars collide and the air's alive
Or was it just like those promises that you made
On our last night?
The days doing nothing
You meant more to me then than I think you ever knew.
But you were gonna be a doctor, movie star
A poet at a Nobel seminar
I hope the world never tore that out of you
Yeah wasn't it you who told me:
And the songs we played, and the indian days
Whatever happened to the things you gave away?
Like Harold and Maude singing
Like Harold and Maude singing
The sunlight was falling
You were writing backwards in a dusty window pane

i love the Taylor Swift cover of this song..really beautiful
I think this song is about letting go of someone. It's about two people wanting two different things and they have to part ways.
I don't think that she's moving away, per se. What I immediately though of was they were high school sweethearts and she went off to college to pursue her dreams, and he didn't, and now he's wondering whatever happened to her. That's what I get out of that part about you were gonna be a doctor, movie star... etc. She had a lot of big dreams and for whatever reason he couldn't be a part of them.
I think this is my favorite song off of Before The Robots. It's just so serene and beautiful.
I love this song! I just bought "Before the Robots" and this song is right up there with "A Lifetime."
This song is great...I have to agree with lastrockshowradie about it being about having to let go of someone.
I beilive this song is about someone that is currently in a relationship and they are standing there in there house before she had to move away..."We were standing in an empty room"
So the whole song is about this guy that was in a really good realationship.
But nevertheless this is a really great song!!!!
Mostly its about letting go of someone he really cares about Like hes in a realationship with this person and their moving away and then he goes off talking about how he thinks about all the good times and memories...
no this is obv about his summer at camp and his camp love..everything indicates it was at summer camp..when they were forced to leave at the end..the room was empty bc all the stuff was cleared out on leaving day..indian days, swimming on the lake, car taking her away, promises she made on the last night..of camp..(ill never forget you well see each other again ill visit youu blahh etc.)
Definitely relate to this song.. The girl I am with now moved away now to be a doctor...
