Sunny Day Believer Lyrics
I'm a messed up mix-man
Lookin' for the next plan
Waitin' for the sandman
To knock me out
I'm a dressed-up dead man
Tanqueray in one hand
Wakin' up the old man
Knock me out
I'm a sunny-day-believer
And my grass is always greener
Tasting life is so much sweeter
When I lie
I'm a broken rich man
Holdin' out an empty hand
Waitin' for the big man
To bail me out
I'm a sunny-day-believer
Got my life inside a theater
I will burn you like a fever
When I try
I'm a sunny-day-believer
And my grass is always greener
Tasting life is so much sweeter
When I lie
When I lie
When I lie
I'm a sexed up-sin-man
Takin' it when I can
Waitin' for the holy man
To strike me
I'm a sunny-day-believer
And my grass is always greener
Tasting life is so much sweeter
When I lie
I'm a sunny-day-believer
Got my life inside a theater
I will burn you like a fever
When I try
When I lie
When I lie
Lookin' for the next plan
Waitin' for the sandman
To knock me out
I'm a dressed-up dead man
Tanqueray in one hand
Wakin' up the old man
Knock me out
And my grass is always greener
Tasting life is so much sweeter
When I lie
Holdin' out an empty hand
Waitin' for the big man
To bail me out
Got my life inside a theater
I will burn you like a fever
When I try
I'm a sunny-day-believer
And my grass is always greener
Tasting life is so much sweeter
When I lie
When I lie
When I lie
Takin' it when I can
Waitin' for the holy man
To strike me
And my grass is always greener
Tasting life is so much sweeter

I'm a sunny-day-believer
Got my life inside a theater

First I'll start with the chorus:
"I'm a sunny-day-believer And my grass is always greener Tasting life is so much sweeter When I lie"
basically its saying that there are two sides to life. A sunny day vs. a rainy day, 'the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence', and that he's on the correct side of the fence. He's enjoying life, and it's even better when he doesn't have to live by the rules.
As for the verses, its just examples of how he lives life and differnt things that happen to him. Good or bad, he always ends up on the right side of the fence.
please correct me or add your own opinion. I'd like to know what others think
First off, nice to see I'm not the only one on this site to know of these guys. One of the best Minnesota-based bands IMHO.
Anyways, to tell you the truth I'm not 100% on what this is about, but nicn64's idea seems to be on the right track.
It also seems that the person this song is about seems to be quite a self-loving ass too. "Sexed up sin man" and a few other lines seem to sum that up.
The "got my life inside a theater" line seems to be saying that he's picturing his life as a movie instead of something real, and he sees himself as sort of the hero of it, when he really isn't anything of the sort.
It's a kick ass song though, and one of my favorites by the band, along with Sunshine, Everything, and Empty Eyes.
kick ass band, the only thing i have to add to this is "got my life inside a theater" could also meen that he is seing what he wants to see, which goes along with the self loving ass part. when you go to a theater you normally choose what you wanna see, so he is saying that he does what he wants, hes the guy who talks and has his cell phone on during a movie, then gets pissed when people tell him to shut up. and Tanqueray is quite the drink
