The Nurse Lyrics
The nurse should not be the one who puts salt in your wounds
But its always with trust that the poison is fed with a spoon
When you're helpless with no one to turn to alone in your room
You would swear that the one who would care for you never would leave
She promised and said you will always be safe here with me
But promises open a door to be broken to me
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down now
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down now
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down
The maid that you've hired could never conspire to kill
She's to mother, not quietly smother you when your most ill
The one that you're trusting suspiciously dusting the sill
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down now
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down now
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down
But its always with trust that the poison is fed with a spoon
When you're helpless with no one to turn to alone in your room
You would swear that the one who would care for you never would leave
She promised and said you will always be safe here with me
But promises open a door to be broken to me
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down now
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down
She's to mother, not quietly smother you when your most ill
The one that you're trusting suspiciously dusting the sill
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down now
No I'll never know, I'll never know, I'm never gonna let you down

Best song from GBMS, period. Jack's soothing vocals and light marimba paired with the unexpected crashes of drum, guitar, and piano makes for, in my opinion, the most different, craziest song on this record. This is the sound! The song's about not trusting the ones you think you know so well; those who are set in their positions DO have a mind of their own and DO have the power to hurt you.
Yeah it's about betrayal by those you trust to look after you (nurse, maid). Then the chorus is from the point of view of the one who ends up betraying the one they're "never gonna let down". And so is the last line of the second verse: "But promises open a door to be broken to me". Like Take, Take, Take; pretty obvious lyrics but really good ones.
Yes, betrayal. But the worst, deepest kind of betrayal, by those that made the deepest committment. The crashing drums...letting loose the anger from the betrayal.
Nice pickup Figment on the Zellwiger thing...seems like something he would write into a song.
i'm listening to a live version of this song right now- this is what i hear: (background: jack playing intro) Fan1: what can't this guy play? Fan2: ...Bass Guitar they both laugh
anyways- i didn't like this song at first when i got the cd, but it totally grew on me. you guys are right about how chilling it is. I absolutely love it.I saw them in concert and he just plays the marimba and hooks his guitar up to a petal. This way he plays the marimba and turns the guitar on for the distortion durring the guitar bursts. It was amazing. I couldn't figure out how he did it at first. Ah wow
lol....this is the hardest song ever to play on air guitar
I don't know what it is about, but it sounds like a sound about betrayal...
Freaky cool lyrics. Great song once you've got used to the marimba.
It's interesting -- he recently broke up with Renee Zellweiger (sp?) who played the title character in Nurse Betty. It might or might not be a coincidence. It's a great, creepy song about betrayal.
This song is so so so chilling...the subdued vocals, the bursts of guitar, the comforting marimba, and that really really freaky piano build
I think its about betrayal by the ones closest to us, even though they'll say "No, I'm never gonna let you down now..."
I love the absolute randomness of the guitar hits... brilliant!
