Close Lyrics

I don’t put a smile upon your face no more
I can’t make your heart shine like it did before
You don’t listen to my stories anymore
You can’t comfort me the way you did before

Was I too loud, was I too bad
Was I too open
Was I too high, was I too fast
Was I too close

I don’t feel your lips like the first kiss
I’d rather run away than sit to face the truth

Was I too proud, was I too hopeful
Was I too needing
Was I too crazy, was I too long
Was I too giving

No matter how far, no matter how long
I will be there

i think this is about a girl who is with a man who is falling out of love with her and and she really loves him and is extremely insicure about herself now.

this is so badly about me. about me

she feels like this person she's with doesn't love her any more and that certain spark is gone, and she wonders what she did wrong for him to grow distant like this. SHe's wondering if unchangeable qualities of her personality are driving her lover away. Even though it seems like her lover doesn't love her any more, she still clings to the hope that maybe one day he'll come back and come get her and she will wait no matter what the cost. I think that is sort of ignorant on her part because if he doesn't love her now, what's to say that could change that later on down the road? The youthful sound of her voice could suggest a sort of naivity and that she needs to grow up a little bit and realize that there will be others her way.

I love this song. I listened to it a lot after a break-up. Funny how you always want to listen to the sad songs that relate to you most, then they stick with you forever, always connected to that moment in time.

It may just be me, but the second verse strikes me as her being somewhat bitter about the man who has fallen out of love with her. 'Was I too giving?' She probably sees this as a personal quality that she has, and wonders why, if she gave so much, she never got what she wanted in return. Yet, despite him falling out of love with her for reasons she can't understand, it's too difficult for her to be angry. Instead she'll just keep waiting for him.
