The Power Of Love Lyrics

I'll protect you from the hooded claw
keep the vampires from your door

Feels like fire
I'm so in love with you
Dreams are like angels
They keep bad at bay-bad at bay
Love is the light
Scaring darkness away-yeah

I'm so in love with you
Purge the soul
Make love your goal

The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal

I'll protect you from the hooded claw
Keep the vampires from your door
When the chips are down I'll be around
With my undying, death-defying
Love for you

Envy will hurt itself
Let yourself be beautiful
Sparkling love, flowers
And pearls and pretty girls
Love is like an energy
Rushin' rushin' inside of me

The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal

This time we go sublime
Lovers entwine-divine divine
Love is danger, love is pleasure
Love is pure-the only treasure

I'm so in love with you
Purge the soul
Make love your goal

The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
The power of love
A force from above
A sky-scraping dove

Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal

I'll protect you from the hooded claw
keep the vampires from your door

Cover art for The Power Of Love lyrics by Frankie Goes to Hollywood

"Time passes in moments... moments which, rushing past, define the path of a life, just as surely as they lead towards its end.

How rarely do we stop to examine that path, to see the reasons why all things happen, to consider whether the path we take in life is our own making, or simply one into which we drift with eyes closed.

But what if we could stop, pause to take stock of each precious moment before it passes? Might we then see the endless forks in the road that have shaped a life? And, seeing those choices, choose another path?"

We have a choice to love or hate. Given this choice is proof that love is freely given to us as a never fading companion. This song awakens the fact that we are never alone while we walk lifes journey.

x files fan, anybody?

'love is pure, the only treasure' ....simplistic, sure, but if you dont at least aspire to this sentiment, then you must be a very empty vessel! I love this beautiful song, so full of emotion, expressing that feeling of being deeply in love. You will do ANYthing to protect your loved one, your heart brimming with incandescent, passionate, un-dreamed of love.

'Make love your goal' if this was the goal of us all, romantic love and love of life, surely all our lives would be better.

Frankie says, reply! lol.

I love this song, it reminds me of Christmas

I always loved this song, but really hated the Gabrielle Aplin cover, because I always felt it missed the point. Yes, in some ways this is a fairly straight love song. But there's also a darker side to it as well; the kind of love Holly Johnson is offering here is so powerful and intense, so all-consuming. "Love is danger" is the key line. It's quite clear there is a deep erotic love on offer.

Partly because of that, I always felt that for the object of the lover's desire to be "protected" by Holly would be fraught with risk. From the frying pan into the fire. From the hooded claw to a lover who loves you so much they're just as terrifying. Any cover that doesn't see the darkness in this song is covering only half of it.

Partly I think you have to remember that Frankie in the mid-80s were a by-word for dangerous, hedonistic sex, and that vibe is very strong in this song, despite its occasional prettiness.

My Opinion

@mr_disco2003 I am 11 years late to say it but this is a brilliant analysis.

Hee, hee. It's hard to believe this is the same band that sang "Relax". Very nice song and obviously it's about how love affects him and how powerful it is to him

Its a shame the above lyrics fail to include the talking intro and outro of: "I'll protect you from the hooded claw keep the vampires from your door" which adds greatly to the power and passion of the song. This of course was the third of the Frankie No 1's in the UK at Xmas 85. (This was one of the three songs with the same title; Power of Love, that got to number one in the year (the others being Huey Lewis and the News and Jennifer Rush). This song reflects the power of love to the protagonist of the song. A beutiful song that was used in the first as the backdrop to the first condom advert on TV in the UK (for Durex I think).

Wow, brilliant insight there ValoNight! An epic arrangement with imaginative lyrics featuring mystical imagery. The video is about the birth of Jesus and beautifully done indeed. Basically, the lyrics are a description of The Power of Love, but with references to love between partners as well as the caring - for - others type.

One of the most beautiful powerful love songs ever! I have always loved this song but it took a while for me to get my head around the video but then I got it. Pure love like a white light driving the darkness and bad things away. I always thought it was hilarious that this was the same guys that sang Relax, but hey they're both great songs in different ways.
