Light House Lyrics
Watch the children sing, but not to be singers
And so hopeful, they still are believers
There's so much to do or say without repeating
And a sad story hoped she would keep reading
Maybe a message or just not perceiving
There's so much to do or say without repeating
So why don't we?
And don't expect too much, okay?
'Cause the best, the worst might have passed anyway
And like the light house we watched it spin 'round and 'round
There's just some things
They aren't meant to touch the ground
Bada ba bada ba bada bum bum...
And let our legs just run, no concept of distance
All these rules we've learned could make no difference
There's so much to do or say without repeating
And it's the subtle laugh that will keep ringing
And what was overlooked could now have meaning
There's so much to do or say without repeating
So why don't we?
And don't expect too much, okay?
'Cause the best, the worst might have passed anyway
And like the light house we watched it spin 'round and 'round
There's just some things
They aren't meant to touch the ground
Bada ba bada ba bada bum bum...
And so hopeful, they still are believers
There's so much to do or say without repeating
And a sad story hoped she would keep reading
Maybe a message or just not perceiving
There's so much to do or say without repeating
So why don't we?
'Cause the best, the worst might have passed anyway
And like the light house we watched it spin 'round and 'round
There's just some things
They aren't meant to touch the ground
All these rules we've learned could make no difference
There's so much to do or say without repeating
And it's the subtle laugh that will keep ringing
And what was overlooked could now have meaning
There's so much to do or say without repeating
So why don't we?
'Cause the best, the worst might have passed anyway
And like the light house we watched it spin 'round and 'round
There's just some things
They aren't meant to touch the ground

It kind of just reminds me of that blissful sort of hopelessness I feel during the summertime. Just kind of . . . overthinking things, then coming to find that I was going in the wrong direction, or I was simply dwelling on the unimportant.
favorite part: "and don't expect too much, okay? cause the best and the worst might have passed anyway."
To me, this song is about hope, happiness, innocence, and unsullied love —
the hope of children, singing, their whole lives ahead of them, with no concept of whether or not their voices sound pleasant or marketable, they aren’t bound by the opinions of others or the need for fame, money, or anything superficial,
the joy of runners enjoying the act of running, with no reason to consider the beginning or end of the the run itself,
the love and hope of two partners, dancing, whirling round, feet metaphorically unable to touch the ground, defying both gravity and the “rules” or hard realities that can frequently push people apart
the hope metaphorically embodied by the lighthouse, a refuge in the dark, a welcome sight when lost at sea, the ultimate symbol of safety and homecoming
I love this song. It’s bittersweet not just in its sound but in its best line: “don’t expect too much, okay — the best or the worst might have passed anyway.”
I think the overall message is to stay in the present. Try to enjoy your life and your happiness as it comes. Be grateful for whatever brings both hope and joy in your life, and unburdened by worry or memory. And the bittersweet promise is left unsaid: you’ll likely be able to weather storms by keeping your eye on the light.
