This song captures the confusion we often face in the world around us. "Why things don't always turn out as you plan" - a question we all face. I think the answer lies in the line "but I love this life." We have to learn to love, trust and embrace change even if we don't understand the reason behind it.
I love this song. The chorus is fucking amazing. This song, actually, introduced me into the world of B Sides. I don't understand why, but so many artist's B Sides are usually better than the songs on the actual album!

Yup, a b-side to "speed of sound" and didnt grab me first of all, but now I love it
Why are the B-sides always so amazing? There's something intimate about a Coldplay song that not many people know about, though. "Things I Don't Understand" is pretty self-explanitory. I absolutely love it.
This song should have taken the place of Speed of Sound on the album. This song is just so much better in comparison.
Anyway, the message is: You may never understand everything there is to life, but that is no reason for you not to enjoy it anyway.
I'm surprised there are so few comments on this one. This song is AMAZING! It could have easily been on X&Y for sure! I loved it from the first listen.
I think this b-side is a reflection fo the kind of stuff we can expect from coldplay in the future....just a guess.
In short, it's a corny song about how confusing the world and universe is...yet how he loves it anyway, perhaps because of it's confusion and complexity.
