It's one and the same, one and the same oh
So what's the use between death and glory?
I can't tell between death and glory
Happy endings, no, they never bored me
Happy endings, they still don't bore me
But they, they have a way
A way to make you pay
And to make you toe the line
No, I sever my ties
Because I'm so clever
But clever ain't wise

Fuck forever
If you don't mind
Oh fuck forever?
If you don't mind, don't mind, I don't mind, I don't mind

Oh what's the use between death and glory?
I can't tell between death and glory
New labour and Tory
Purgatory and no happy families

One and the same, one and the same
No, it's not the same
It's not supposed to be the same
You know about that way
The way they make you pay
And the way they make you toe the line
I've severed my ties
Oh, you're so clever, you're so clever
But you're not very nice
So fuck forever
If you don't mind
Oh I'm stuck forever
In your mind, your mind, your mind

Go ahead and know about that way
To make you feel like shit and make you pay
And to make you toe the line, line
I sever my tie
Oh and I'll never
Sever the ties
And fuck forever
If you don't mind
See I'm stuck forever
Oh I'm stuck in your mind, your mind, your mind, your mind

They'll never played this on the radio
Oh they'll never play this on the radio

i was just sat listening to this song and something came to mind.

the civalization we have forces upon us things we dont want to do. he talks about severing the ties..that could mean he wants to cut himself off from civalistion as we know it..maybe to find some sort of happyness without 'paying for it' he wants to fuck forever! which is so much better than trying to deciefer between new labour, tory, death and glory etc...

he is clever, but realises these thoughts are not particulary wise, and everyone else is not very nice. OH CAN WE JUST FUCK FOREVER!!?

fuck forever and all the shit it comes with! pergatory...is that the place between heaven and hell?

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
