Where are we?
What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to form
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking, feeling
Spin me around again
And rub my eyes
This can't be happening
When busy streets
A mess with people
Would stop to hold their heads heavy
Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first
Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before
The takeover
The sweeping insensitivity of this
Still life
Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
(You won't catch me around here)
Blood and tears
They were here first
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, that you only meant well
Well of course you did
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, that it's all for the best
Of course it is
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, that it's just what we need
You decided this
Mm, what'd you say?
Mm, what did she say?
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cutouts
Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you
You don't care a bit, you don't care a bit
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cutouts
Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you
You don't care a bit, you don't care a bit
(You don't care a bit)
Oh, no, you don't care a bit
Oh, no, you don't care a bit
Uh-uh, you don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to form
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking, feeling
Spin me around again

how is this song about the Holocaust? ya it makes sense but only in certain parts..... how do you explain the rest of the song.. you cant only explain bits and pieces of the song, its like poetry you have to look at it as a whole... so unless someone can explain every word and phrase and how its metaphoricly relating to the Holocaust, you got nothing...especially since it goes like " Mm what'cha say? Mm, that you only meant well, Well of course you did.Mm what'cha say? Mm that it's all for the best, Of course it is. Mm what'cha say? Mm that it's just what we need,You decided this? Mm what'cha say? Mm what did you say?" how could that even relate? sorry.. just sayin... and i could be wrong but i dont think i am... the way the song is portrayed to me at least is, she says "Where are we? What the hell is going on? The dust has only just begun to fall Crop circles in the carpet Sinking feeling" like a relationship; like someone just lost, not in a death way, but more like a close friend or a significant other... its talking about the begining of when they start losing someone.. like rethinking about what just happened...
"Spin me around again and rub my eyes This can't be happening When busy streets a mess with people Would stop to hold their heads heavy" basicly like they just lost a friendship or messed up some relationship with someone that was really close and they are taking everything in like they cant believe what happened..
"Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines All those years They were here first" "hide and seek" like they are lost without that person... and they are waiting to be found again...mainly thinking about the years wasted on something that turned out to be nothing...
"Oily marks appear on walls Where pleasure moments hung before The takeover, the sweeping insensitivity Of this still life" she's looking around in a specific place maybe a house or somwhere where alot of time was spent with this other person whom they felt they have lost.. but she's looking back and thinking about all the good and bad memories as if they were just pictures she was looking at, like the memories dont feel real because when you think about them it makes you hurt and feel empty because you dont have them anymore or more that you are losing them...
"Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines Blood and tears They were here first" this is basicly her taking her life into consideration..
"Mm what'cha say? Mm, that you only meant well Well of course you did Mm what'cha say? Mm that it's all for the best Of course it is Mm what'cha say? Mm that it's just what we need You decided this? Mm what'cha say? Mm what did you say?" this is pretty self explanitory... she's two people here... she's restating what the other person ,whom shes losing, is saying to her...like a break is something thats needed, and that in the end its gonna be better that things turned out the way they did, and they are pretty much deciding everything without taking what she thinks into consideration.. so she's only agreeing, its more of a sarcastic argument...
"Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth Mid-sweet-talk newspaper word cutouts (paper word cutouts) Speak no feeling; no, I don't believe you You don't care a bit You don't care a bit" and then this last part is saying how the other person is acting like them leaving doesnt matter, but they still try to be around to work on things or act like they care, but in the end she's saying how she feels numb and realizes that that other person doesnt care so she's saying stop speaking and making excuses because you dont care about whats going on...
this is my portrayal on what this song means, a shortened brief version... and maybe im wrong.. but this is what i get out of it and i know alot of people that look at it this way.. but please feel free to correct me if im wrong...
everybody needs to read chameleon333888's comment on page four.... his comment was about an interview with imogen heap asking her what the song means.. and its about relationships and losing someones friendship or partnership... but go read it...
although she wrote it about something completely different i also completely agree that this song could go along with the holocaust..i took a class on it and it just fits perfectly.

Where are we?
What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to fall
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking feeling

(when the jews were taken to the camps they had no idea what was going on..the statement about the dust has just begun to fall, like the cremated bodies falling down from the towers where they burned the people..and then the sinking feeling when they realize whats happening)

Spin me around again and rub my eyes
This can't be happening
When busy streets a mess with people
Would stop to hold their heads heavy
(disbelief that this could be happening-where they used to live then forced in ghettos life was constrained)

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first
(trains..where the jews were taken to the camps..i was fortunate enough to hear a survivor speak of his journey and he cannot go on trains)

Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before
The takeover, the sweeping insensitivity
Of this still life
(when the homes were raided, their homes were trashed..also they were told they could bring valuables..there are pictures of piles of photographs taken away from them when they go to the camps.they were taken over..the nazi completely insensitive)

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
Blood and tears
They were here first
(the title hide and seek..many jews had to hide and the nazi were searching for them)

Mm what'cha say?
Mm, that you only meant well
Well of course you did

Mm what'cha say?
Mm that it's all for the best
Of course it is

Mm what'cha say?
Mm that it's just what we need
You decided this?

Mm what'cha say?
Mm what did you say?
(the whole concept of the holocaust-that life would be better without the jews but who are to say, and thats what the world needs..how hitler and his followers decided this)

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet-talk newspaper word cutouts (paper word cutouts)
Speak no feeling; no, I don't believe you
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
