Margot Kidder Lyrics

You wouldn't know it to look at me,
But I'm a superhere-
I've got x-ray vision and everything.
My frail frame belies my strength-
I can lift tall buildings
With one hand tied behind my back.
But the morning after each episode
I wake up at home, alone.
Despide my mediocre looks,
I'm daily dared by damsels
To fight international crime.
In the end i always win the day-
I save the world, get my girl.
But the morning after each episode
I wake up at home, alone.
The comfort knowing that
I've saved you all wears thin.
My superhuman efforts
Largely go unrewarded.
The government won't take my phone calls.
On my days off I hang around
The centre of town.
And the morning after each episode
I wake up at home, alone.
The days after each episode
I wake up and wish that I
Wouldn't be expeted to get out of bed
And help mankind.
I'd comb my hair a little differently, and
Put on some glasses,
Find somewhere to hide.
Tell the United Nations that
They've got the wrong number and
I'd live a quiet life.

Hmm, I love this song. It has a distinct sense of melancholy about it. I dunno about the meaning. Maybe Frank is comparing being in a touring band to being a superhero. He works and works in this band and yet they still remain largly ignored by music press and stuff. He's not asking for number one singles, just a smidge of recognition. And then maybe, sometimes he's sick of doing the whole touring thing and just wants a quiet life. I dunno, if this is the actual meaning, but it's just the impression I get.

Also, I think I read somewhere that Margot Kidder is bi-polar. So maybe Frank is saying that being in a band and then going about 'normal' life feels a bit bi-polar and that they are two separate personalities in one.

This is one of my favorite songs by them.

It's about mental health, and how society sees people who have mental health issues as weak, whereas they're some of the strongest people around. It plays with Margot Kidder's bi-polar and likens her episodes (I assume manic) of her being a super hero. People going through manic episodes of bi-polar can be hyper-focussed on achieving a certain goal (although not always a constructive one) which could be seen as a 'superhuman effort' which 'largely goes unrewarded'.

I really love this song, there's so many interpretations but I think that is it.
