This song, to me, is about a girl who wants to hide away from feelings she has for others, but yet one person has feelings for her in the same way as she does and he wants to get the message home that she doesnt have to be on her own, even though he feels her heart is made of stone and there is no way of getting that point across, he is going to keep trying because she is 'the target he is aiming at'
Q writes from Martin, about this song, "My favorite song, its the simplest. It arrived with 10 days of recording left so it was very exciting to do. It took a day and a half to record."
To me, this song seems to be about two people who are in denial about their feelings for eachother. Then one day, one of them just breaks down and tells the other that they love them.
I just love the part where it goes, "And I'm not gonna take it back/Oh I'm not gonna say I don't mean that." It's such an unabashed declaration of one person's love for another. Coldplay's new album rocks!
these words are beautiful...
"on a platform im gonna stand and say that im nothing on my own..that i love you, please come home. my song is love, is love i know. and i've got to get that message home."
yeah, the meanings pretty self explanitory. beautiful music
yea, I think a few of the lines are wrong.
I heard
My song is love Love to the loveless shown
and
My song is love, is love unknown
I recognised these coz they're paraphrased from an old Christian hymn (http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/m/y/mysongis.htm). What an awesome song tho! It's SO simple and it's lovely.
Wow I've just realized that too, because I was looking through a poetry book and it had this hymn in it and i thought, i know these lyrics!

I thought I would be a smarty pants and come post it here but looks like you've beat me to it...lol :D

Beautiful song,
Beautiful song,
'You don't have to be alone...'
'You don't have to be alone...'
To me, this song runs deep. This girl is scared. She's denying any feelings that she has for this guy and completely ignoring his dire attempts to her. It's so hard to get to her, but he can't stop... sorry i went off on my own tangent guys, thats probably not what the song is about but that's what's happening in my life easily related to thanks to chris martin
This is DEFINATLY my favorite song on X&Y. I just find it so elegant, lovely, and comforting. Coldplay has always provided this for me, and this song especially. It's obviously about someone who loves a person who doesn't really show emotion. But he (the singer) loves her so much, and he won't stop at anything to have her understand that he loves her. That's his message.
This used to be my ex and I's song. Over time, it's had different and very personal meanings for me. At the beginning, I was transfixed with the "on a platform" lyric as it seemed to convey my confession of love for her and wanting to shout it from the rooftops to everyone. As time went by, our relationship slowly and selfishly became less and less about each other and I became more transfixed on the sort of heartbreaking and somber nature of it. It speaks softly but surely about a sort of unrequited, unreturned, undeserving kind of love... A love you have to give too much of yourself to have. Needless to say our relationship wasn't ever meant to be and after years of on again off again trying over and over to make it work we finally had to let go. It was awful, and it's been years since I've brought myself to listen to this song all the way through. Funny enough this is right around the time of year I first really heard it and shared it and my feelings with her so long ago, and I've got to admit it makes me really kind of sad. Especially when thinking back now on how things turned out with us, but you know things change, time goes by, you move on, you fall in love all over again, and in the end life ends up full of little bittersweet remembrances just like this damnable song.
the chorus is definitely wrong i think it should be:
And I'm not gonna take it back Oh I'm not gonna say I don't mean that Youre the target that im aiming at And I'm nothing on my own Got to get that message home
at first i didn't really like this song, but the more I listened, I fell in love with it. The simple way chris sings the last few lines is so beautiful.
