Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back) Lyrics

Bring that beat back to me again
Take me back, take me back, can't catch me can't catch me
Bring that beat back to me again
Take me back, take me back, can't catch me, can't catch me

Ride my bike down that old dirt hill (can't catch me)
First time without my trainin' wheels
First time I kissed you I lost my legs (can't catch me)
Bring that beat back to me again

Screamin', shoutin', louder innocence
Days when all we did would never end

Bring that beat back to me again
Take me back, take me back, can't catch me can't catch me
Bring that beat back to me again
Take me back, take me back, can't catch me can't catch me

Smokin' on the railroad bridge
I used to ride my bike down that old dirt hill
The first time I kissed you I lost my legs
Bring that beat back to me again

Screamin', shoutin', louder innocence
Days when all we did would never end

Screamin' down that old dirt hill
Bring that beat back to me again

Oh when it gets hard
That's when the days I remember seem so far
When I was just a kid that's what I miss
When I was just a kid that's what I miss
Take me back, Take me back to that beat again

Smokin' on the railroad bridge
Bring that beat back to me again (again)
Bring that beat back to me again (can't catch me)
Bring that beat back to me again
First time all we were was good friends
Bring that beat back to me again
Bring that beat back to me again
Bring that beat back to me again (can't catch me)
Bring that beat back to me again
Bring that beat back to me again
Bring that beat back to me again

i love this song, such a good, reminiscent feel to it, reminds me of childhood and a first crush, also during childhood. i get the picture of his doing these things during his childhood and then going to see his first crush, and wanting to feel that excitement and thrill of seeing that first love/crush again, and missing that part of himself. kinda like he outgrew it and hasnt felt it since and he wants to return to it.

Don't know about all that ^^^^...you on drugs bud? What i get from this song is that he is simply remembering and reminiscing on the thrills of his youth and how everything was so exciting and pure when he was an innocent kid. Favorite part of the song is the way he sings "Screamin', shoutin, louder innocence"..i like the way it flows. Oh and i think that it's "smokin' under the railroad bridge"..thats what im hearing...anyways i love DMB, cant wait to see them in concert July 13th woo countin down the days!!

I think this is simply a happy song about his child hood. Being free, Being a kid, and him missing his child hood "bring that beat back to me again" Its about him living and growing up "Ridne my bick down the old dirt hill, first time without my training wheels" its about him falling inlove maybe "first tiem i kissd you i lost my legs". Think im wrong if you want but i think it is just about how he missed growing up,and being young

I love this song too! It's such a fun memory song, without dwelling on how you cant bring it back. It feels as if it isnt a memory anymore. Like its still happening.

It seems haunting to me..the old dirt hill is a review of daves life...his grave of sorts. on a more deeper side. theres three enemies of man. three hills or mountains of power. think of man as a city surrounded by three mountains. three enemies. the world, flesh and devil.

dave is seen riding on these hills up to the top and down in their valleys. also seen riding on a bridge interconnectng them and third seen as floating above them without legs. three enemies to be overcome. the first as we ride with our training wheels. the second with our training wheels and lastly floating without wheels (legs). as we listen as dave calls out to us to follow.."cant catch me".

think of "when the world ends". dave discribes floating above the very same mountaintops until they all fade away. if your of the biblical sort..think of the parable of the sower and its three enemies or the child, young man and father stages of understanding..or in revelations..the seven mountains of babylon..well think of just one mountain..it all describes the same old thing ..that old dirt hill.

daves deep even in the most simplest songs..

Still on the fantasy (Dreamgirl, Stand Up, Smooth Rider) the guy has lost the dreamgirl but wants her back. Bring that beat back to me again.
Meanwhile her angels are saying we didn't show up just to let you drool over her. We have an agenda!
While he says ... can't catch me can't catch me and tears off on his bike, which symbolizes the experience. First time without his training wheels refers to his own doubts about escape but he's trying anyway.
I think the line may be "Screaming, shouting, louder in my head." The guy loved it when his dreamgirl was at her dreamiest ... days when all we did would never end... The days he's remembering, when he was just like a kid, are the days he wants to return to when he asks for the beat to come back to him again. When his dreamgirl was making him "lose his legs" he felt like a kid and loved it. The way these angels sound, I find his "can't catch me can't catch me" so full of bravado.
