A Modern Myth Lyrics
Did we create a modern myth?
Did we imagine half of it?
What happened then, a thought from now?
Save yourself, save yourself
The secret is out (x2)
To buy the truth and sell a lie
The last mistake before you die
So don't forget to breathe tonight
Tonight's the last, so say goodbye
The secret is out (x2)
Goodbye (x17)
Did we imagine half of it?
What happened then, a thought from now?
Save yourself, save yourself
The last mistake before you die
So don't forget to breathe tonight
Tonight's the last, so say goodbye

To me the song reflects the clever stories we tell ourselves in situations. The writer has witnessed someone close to him, or in fact himself, that constantly twists the truth of the story. For example with something recent, Hillary Clinton said when she went over to foreign lands, her life was threatened by a sniper, and caused her to evacuate. The real truth told by journalists and working staff was that nothing ever happen like that; it was the clever story she told herself and she conveyed it to the world. This happens to the majority of people. When the truth came out, she knew it was a mistake and apologized. If she wasn’t running for the presidency, I believe she would have never told the real truth. Sadly, this is a disease.
“Did we create a modern myth” …meaning when one sees/hears a situation they are in fact telling themselves a story in their head and from that story they act and feel upon that. Some people, well the majority of people, tell themselves a clever story which in fact happens in a split second and react.
“Did we imagine half of it”… meaning when the person tells them the story of what is going on right now, they put their own twist to the story which in fact becomes a modern myth, a fictional story, where it does not represent the whole truth of the situation.
“What happened then, a thought from now” The writer witnessed a person or himself exemplifying a clever, twisted story what the writer calls a modern myth. And this thought of what he observes now sees it as it is a modern myth and not the truth
“Save yourself. save yourself.” Trying to break Break the cycle. Break the loop.
A secret is out. We all know what you do. Putting your own twist on the truth he has become aware of it
“To buy the truth/ And sell a lie” meaning the person who is telling themselves this clever story is actually in fact bringing the truth of the matter in and turning into their clever story and convey out to others a modern myth, a twisted story
”The last mistake” He knows it is a mistake when it happens
“Before you die” it is a disease; therefore, you are in fact killing the purity inside yourself when you do this, you become tainted
”So don't forget to breath tonight/Tonight's the last” When you recognize the mistake you make; however, you tell yourself this is the last time I will ever do this
“So say goodbye” He is trying to break the cycle to sway from doing this again… It is a battle within.
The energy is augmented throughout the song. It has great meaning by showing a struggle within, the battle he has, and only the result will conclude if he was successful or not of breaking the habit of telling himself this clever story and conveying to others
perfect interpretation, in my opinion. Thanks

I don't think they wrote this song for Andrew, but they dedicated it to him at one of their concerts, and met his family and stuff. I have a video here of 30STM performing the song, and at the end Jared says "goodbye Andrew" Also, read the description, it pretty much explains it.

Hopefully the link works okay (:

That is the 30STM official message board, And a thread about this Andrew boy who was apparantly a huge fan.
this song has a hidden track called "Praying for a Riot"
A Modern Myth is definitely a raw and emotional song. Jared really put is heart to this, and it's one of the saddest but most wonderful things I've ever heard from them.
As everyone else said, this song really IS self-explanatory, since it can be related to any person out there.
It's simply a goodbye song, leaving something. I don't know, it's a bit hard to explain because it's kind of a "you-had-to-be-there" moment.
"So don't forget to breath tonight Tonight's the last So say goodbye" Such a sad line. I love it so much.
The song is obviously about saying goodbye. But I believe it can be interpreted as saying goodbye to an idea you believed in for so long. Now you understand it was just imagination and you have to say goodbye.
Did we create a modern myth Did we imagine half of it What happened then, a thought for now Save yourself. save yourself. A secret is out
First you had a dream, which you believed but the truth comes hard, and you can't run away from it (save yourself!).
Although you try to bend around this new insight, you know you can't deny it any longer. To buy the truth And sell a lie The last mistake Before you die A secret is out
And you know the day came you have to admit the truth and say goodbye to the dream you had. No longer lie to yourself.
So don't forget to breath tonight Tonight's the last So say goodbye
Goodbye
Yeah saying goodbye to an idea we believed in so long.. like this life. There is something very strange going on in the world we call "life" and if you think about it hard enough you will realize what it is.

I believe this song was dedicated to Andrew Voluck, a 30 seconds to mars fan that died from an accident.
they must have known that he was dying, sad song
