In the Deep Lyrics

Thought you had all the answers
To rest your heart upon

But something happens
Don't see it coming now
You can't stop yourself

Now you're out there swimmin'
In the deep
In the deep

Life keeps tumblin' your heart in circles
Till you let go
Till you've shed your pride
And you climb to heaven
And you throw yourself off

And now you're out there spinnin'
In the deep
In the deep
In the deep
In the deep

Now you're out there spinnin'
Now you're out there swimmin'
In the deep
In the deep
In the deep
In the deep

If you want to be given everything, give everything up

its such a beautiful and moving vocal. i think the song is about realising your ideas are wrong and letting go of your pride, something like that.

Ever since seeing the movie crash, I've been listening to this pretty much non-stop. I think chat619 got it completely right, it's about someone who thinks they know all the answers in life, and when they finally realize that they know nothing, they are bewildered and have a feeling of being lost, or swimming in the deep end of the water.

I remember this song played through my head after I saw a murder. I was at a swimming pool, and I saw the dead body at the adjacent soccer field, surrounded by yellow police tape. I remember dragging my feet in the water and thinking of this song.

The thing that really perplexed me about that whole event, to the point where I was mad, was how even though there was a dead body out in the park, people were still "swimming" in the pool, like nothing happened. We didn't even close the pool. It just made me mad inside.

I thought I knew that no matter how bloody or violent this world was, that we would at least respect the dead, especially when they were out in plain sight under a white sheet... It's like no one cared someone just died out in the field. It really made me go through a plethora of emotions. I was confused, angered, and sad.

Once it happened, and everyone was gone, I just sat at the edge of the swimming pool and dragged my feet in the water. I felt like I was swimming in the deep...

To me this song means basically you're out there Living your life everything feels great, you got a grip on everything. Then someone or something comes along, something simple or complex, and it just breaks you apart. You feel lost and you don't want to admit it but it's breaking you down. Then you realize the you're "now your out there swimming, in the deep" basically meaning you're lost and confused, you feel like you're all by yourself nowhere to turn. By shedding your pride, I think it means realize you can't be perfect, realize you will make mistakes, just keep your chin up and roll with the blows. ;]

To me this mean your life is not always a well-oiled or made-to-order existence. And if you can shake off all the things others have taught you via media and parental rearing...when you learn life is not ideal, it may be frightening, but your knowledge will increase........comes with age.
