Reason To Celebrate Lyrics

in the latter half of december
pressure builds from all reflection on the prior year
on this prior year , yes it was such a great year

sidewalks fill till congestion starts to spill
out onto the steam rising off of lexington

a broken promise is on display for a disconnected family
to reestablish a blood relation
through wine and drunken conversations
without this would there be

oh anything at all

my brothers age exceeds mine by several years
but when he's here the years disinegrate
watch them disappear
just watch them rolling all the fear
cause our luck, mistakes and misfortunes
without them would there be
a place for these children to lead
a way out of war torn country
will they see

anything at all
oh anything at all
parents they will brace this fall
soon enough receive the call
above the crying, everythings gone wrong

you see everythings gone wrong
you see everythings gone wrong
just call your brother, give him love
the broken pieces we will sew

broken promise on display,
disconnected family
if not this would there be,
would there be reason to celebrate
would there be reason, reason at all

and on this holiday i beg and pray
for you to show me a conversation
holding hands underneath all the flashing decorations
put everything aside for now.
its just you i love tonight
if not for eachother, then for my parents sake

on this holiday i beg and pray
for you to show me a conversation
holding hands underneath all the flashing decorations
and put everything aside for now.
its just you i love tonight
if not for eachother,
then for my parents sake

i think this song is about how a family lost a child, ('to reestablish a blood relation' 'parents they will brace this fall' 'soon enough receive the call just call your brother, give him love') maybe on a holiday, and this is the anniversary of their death. and also they're reflecting about how in the last year that person's death has 'disconnected' the family

God, I fucking love his emotional voice.

this song is clearly about a family that is torn apart by an old brother, who seems to me kinda flaky or just thinks he has better things to do on his holidays... "in the latter half of december pressure builds from all reflection on the prior year on this prior year , yes it was such a great year" ---- its in december and they are about to celebrate ect.

sidewalks fill till congestion starts to spill out onto the steam rising off of lexington

"a broken promise is on display for a disconnected family to reestablish a blood relation through wine and drunken conversations without this would there be

oh anything at all"

the brother has broken the promise of coming home for the holidays..they were going to sit around and catch up drinking "reestablish a blood relation through wine and drunken conversations"

"my brothers age exceeds mine by several years but when he's here the years disinegrate watch them disappear"

although hsi brother's age is 3 years older when they are together it doesnt matter they act like they are the same age.

"just watch them rolling all the fear cause our luck, mistakes and misfortunes without them would there be a place for these children to lead a way out of war torn country will they see

anything at all "

but the time is comming and just like every year something bad is going to happen, and if there mistakes and mistforutunues didnt happen there would be hope for this family to be one again.

"oh anything at all parents they will brace this fall soon enough receive the call above the crying, everythings gone wrong

you see everythings gone wrong you see everythings gone wrong just call your brother, give him love the broken pieces we will sew " then bad news happens...the brother is unable to make it for sum reason and the family prepaired for it and still is heartbroken...the mother consoles the family saying everything will be okay just call ur brother and tell him you love him

"broken promise on display, disconnected family if not this would there be, would there be reason to celebrate would there be reason, reason at all"

and the broken promise is there and the family is still broken and the singer wonders if nothing bad ever happened would there be a reason to celebrate? wen good things happen

"and on this holiday i beg and pray for you to show me a conversation holding hands underneath all the flashing decorations put everything aside for now. its just you i love tonight if not for eachother, then for my parents sake"

the narrorator hopes that his brother will set things aside and come home to show his love, if not for him but for his familys sake...

that is my take on the song seems straight forward but i also could be way off ahahhah so do u agree with my interpretation

I can relate to this song, every time I hear it, which is probably once a day, I just think about my family and our own dysfunctions. But how you can make it thourgh those problems and let go, even if only for one day.

oh and i totally agree with thelaststraw about the lost child.

i don't think this song has anything to do with anyone dying as a couple of the previous comments have said. there's no evidence for that at all. you can still have a sad song without someone dying in it...

a very touching song...definitely my favourite one from the honorary title
