The Importance Of Being Idle Lyrics
I sold my soul for the second time, 'cause the man don't pay me.
I begged my landlord for some more time, he said "Son, the bill's waiting."
My best friend called me the other night, he said, "Man, are you crazy?"
My girlfriend told me to get a life, she said, "Boy, you lazy."
But I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine.
I'll be fine - if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit.
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it.
I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine.
I'll be fine - if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit.
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it.
I lost my faith in the summertime, 'cause it don't stop raining.
The sky all day is black as night, but I'm not complaining.
I begged my Doctor for one more line, he said "Son, words fail me!"
There ain't no place to be killing time, I guess I'm just lazy.
I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine.
I'll be fine - if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit.

Obviously this song is about laziness. Noel has said he can be amazed on how lazy he can be sometimes.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. ;)

First, I must say, this song is so good. And official video too.. But, I just feel sorry for them.. the lyric, again, are showing the drug addiction, which is just not right.. But, it's not stopping oasis, i mean, this group just hasn't got a bad song.
reminds me of bob dylan. am i crazy? i just love vit!
yeah, this is probably my favorite song on the album...i'm so lazy hahah.
This is one of my 3 favorite songs on the album.
From the album, the lyrics are: THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE i sold my soul for the second time cos the man don't pay me i begged my landlord for some more time he said "son the bills are waiting" my best friend called me the other night he say "man - you crazy" my girlfriend told me to get a life she say "boy - you lazy" but i don't mind as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine i'll be fine if you give me a minute a man's got a limit i can't get a life if my heart's not in it

As one of the Gallaghers (Noel, I think) put it, "Doing nothing is a job so important that somebody had to write a song about it."
Favourite song on the album! So bloody whimsical - reminiscent almost to Sgt Pepper. Love how high he goes in the verse lyrics. The 60's are still alive in Oasis. Guitar Solo is so beautiful - "weu, weu, weu"!!! - Pretty easy meaning to this song, so lets get stoned!
Great song. Luv the line 'I can't get a life if my hearts not in it.' Feel like that when ur teachers and parents and everyone r saying 'do this, don't do that, stop wasting your time.'
I never really liked Oasis much- their only song I've liked is Live Forever. But THIS song I LOVE. It's soooo fun! - I'm ecstatic when it comes on...the guy in the video somehow reminds me of, er, Willy Wonka...?
The video took me by surprise, not oasis style at all. The decision to include coffins and a funeral in the video suggests to me that the word 'Idle' might even relate to death. "As long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine" - hmmm... a bed under the stars eh?
